Grateful Dead have to be the one band that only fans understand..and all others hate them.

but they are no means good for checking your ears, as all their studio albums are garbage, only the live material maters.

yes but they are a great criteria to study the improv vibe and how to free flow. Plus jerry does have one of the best "tones" in music, not to piercingly high, or cock rockingly low.....

The bird song is always a personal fav.....

I recently broke with a principle of mine which I've adhered to ever since it became an opportunity: Do not pay for music downloads.

The reason? Well, first of all, there's no DRM and the price was fair and I generally didn't feel like I'd be ripped off.

you're absolutely right im not embarrassed but i kind of got the feeling the thread started to be a little about the things we use to calibrate our ears to what we percieve is quality work out there.

Funny, I can tell a little of what you like in music from this selection. Mainly the good use of rhythm and space. Even Tool for being a band made up of session musicians, (read that as really talented at their instruments ), are prone to minimalist compositions as far as thick dense arrangements are concerned.
