Yeah it's all laid out in the fcb1010 manual.

You can program the expression pedals directly on the FCB on a per preset basis. If after following instructions for programming the pedals as laid down in the manual (or interpreted in other links) doesnt work, then you will need to calibrate the pedals and try again. I had to do this before I got the B pedal to work properly. The calibration procedure is simple and is laid down in the manual.

Problems using FCB1010 with Ableton Live 6.0.7

Post by enjoythemoon » Wed Aug 08, 2007 11:06 pm

Hi,

I discovered this thread while researching a problem with my FCB1010 in conjunction with Live 6.0.7. I want to be able to LAUNCH and then STOP individual scenes in Live and I haven't been successful. What I've done so far:

1. Program the pedal presets per the instructions in the FCB manual, where the FCB sends a NOTE message ONLY.

2. Program per the instructions from Yoseph, where the FCB sends a CNT message ONLY.

Both of these approaches yield the same result:

a. My first MIDI map attempt will succeed in launching the desired scene, but Ableton labels the "Note/Control" parameter for this mapping as "Pitchbend" (???). FYI, the other parameters are listed as PATH = "Master" and NAME = "Scene 8".

b. Any subsequent mappings fail because I get an error message in Ableton that says "The selected controller conflicts with the previous mapping for Master | Scene 8. Do you want to replace the previous mapping?" This suggests that all the pedal presets, which to my knowledge are sending either a different NOTE value or a different CNT value, are all interpreted by Ableton as sending the SAME message, and that this message is apparently "Pitchbend"...

I would appreciate any help that you can offer!

Thanks,

-DK

NEVER MIND! Problems using FCB1010...

Post by enjoythemoon » Thu Aug 09, 2007 12:50 am

NEVER MIND! I figured it out, with the help of a FCB1010 PC editor from Mountain Systems (a great little piece of shareware, by the way).

It turns out that the factory settings for my FCB1010 (firmware 2.1.0) set all the MIDI channels to channel “25”. I have no idea why this is the case, since the controller should be transmitting on channels 1 through 16, and not 25. I guess this is why the PC was receiving the same 0xFFFFFFFF message regardless of the command that I was trying to send...

Anyway, I used the PC editor to change all the MIDI channels to “1”, and then I sent the new SysEx file to the FCB. I can now launch scenes with the FCB1010 as I had intended!

So if the FCB1010 can talk directly to Ableton Live, why are so many people using Bome's MIDI translator? Is there some additional functionality that you get by using the translator? (Forgive the naive question, I'm a newbie!)

Just in case you don't want to go down the rabbit hole of programming the FCB1010 then there is a M4L device which makes the FCB1010 work with Ableton Live 'out of the box' - https://blog.abletondrummer.com/fcb-101 ... eton-live/
