Don't let Live resample your audio!

This is some general information on the subject of SRC incase others want to read more about this.

No problem. Yes conversion will always have some errors, but you can do a HELL of a lot better than Ableton. As I posted, R8Brain will do a beautiful transparent job.Tone Deft wrote:if you can post files that'd be great, I have stuff I can run it through. still confused.
sample rate conversion will ALWAYS have some sort of artifacts.
regarding the lines that fade in and fade out: isn't that representative of amplitude-- i.e. intensity of the line = what would be the z-axis, or the amplitude of the frequency at that given time point.
The sine wave, when converted, isn't being converted into a sine wave of a different frequency, but into a more complex waveform.
PS, that website you posted, is that an add for Izotope's SRC?

maybe the Henkenator can chime in on this one.
with hardware it's pretty easy to measure these things and post it in the manual, they don't really do that with software. it'd be interesting to run the same test in other DAWs.

Yes, the strength of the colour is the amplitude. The website is an impartial test by some mastering company. However Izotope seem to have a kick ass SRC system, but Voxengo sounds better to my ears, with it's minimum phase option enabled. Besides, Izotope isn't available as a stand alone package and is totally unavailable on the Windows platform.laird wrote:regarding the lines that fade in and fade out: isn't that representative of amplitude-- i.e. intensity of the line = what would be the z-axis, or the amplitude of the frequency at that given time point.

You can get the test files here http://www.animarecordings.com/testfiles.rar
However it's really easy to make your own.

Some more DAW results. The Peak SRC seems also to be very good (at least good enough for me).

Yes Peak does do a good job. this link has most daws tested http://src.infinitewave.ca/kineticUk wrote:http://www.bias-inc.com/products/peakPr ... ePaper.pdfTone Deft wrote:it'd be interesting to run the same test in other DAWs.

Well, Izotope definitely lifted the images they used in their add http://www.izotope.com/tech/src/ from the independent test done by http://src.infinitewave.ca/
Not that that's bad... but if an independent 'lab' came out with very favorable results for your tests, I for one would say "TESTS DONE BY INDEPENDENT LAB, NOT US' somewhere on the website.

Yes, the do seem to have lifted them. But really, you do not need to worry about the authenticity of the test - you can perform them all yourself and see the results. No need to doubt something you can replicate at home.laird wrote:Well, Izotope definitely lifted the images they used in their add http://www.izotope.com/tech/src/ from the independent test done by http://src.infinitewave.ca/

Nice one, that Izotope seems very very good.Funkstar De Luxe wrote:Yes Peak does do a good job. this link has most daws tested http://src.infinitewave.ca/
I think that is also used by Audiofile Engineering inside their sample editor programs.

Yes, I think so. However it's OSX only, so not much use for me. In fact, I think Audiofile Engineering are the only company to use it so far...kineticUk wrote:Nice one, that Izotope seems very very good.Funkstar De Luxe wrote:Yes Peak does do a good job. this link has most daws tested http://src.infinitewave.ca/

what makes you think I own/have access to 30 different sample rate converting programs?Funkstar De Luxe wrote: Yes, the do seem to have lifted them. No, I think the infinitewave people did a pretty good job doing something the rest of us CANNOT do.
