On PC, I'd always get USB2 over Firewire. I know I'll get shat on for this...I realize USB has CPU overhead, and I realize that Firewire has better sustained transfer speeds. But I still firmly believe (with experience, and from what I've read) that Firewire is very Mac-friendly, while USB is very PC-friendly. Firewire for me has never been smooth; dropouts; losing sync with the breakout box; driver issues; firewire ports breaking; USB2.0 has always been super smooth, no issues, no hickups, ever. I would always recommend a USB2.0 interface for PC people over firewire.
Ok, getting the umbrella ready for the shitstorm on my way.
Buying a new computer...Vista or XP?
here is sit broken hearted
tried to shit but only farted.
relatively speaking audio is a slow data rate, USB and firewire both work fine.
don't cheap out on a sound card, too much of your funstation is based around it, the number of in/outs, the sample rates, the latency, it's a good place to spend some money. avoid M Audio if you can, cheap gear, cheap results.
