I'm surprised you say cotton wool

I would have thought gorecki was the most seminal track from them
I had never heard beats programmed like that before, Gorecki was an awesome track, but I discovered Lamb through a 4-track teaser tape that their label sent out, and Gorecki was supposed to be on it, but instead my copy had Cotton Wool 4 times in a row. I didn't hear Gorecki until quite a while afterwards. Cotton Wool in the meanwhile just blew my mind.

Word. I can't say that's the one that changed it all for me, but what I can definitely say is man that is a sick ass track.

The first quality electronic music I was exposed to was BT's Movement in Still Life. I remember sitting outside during lunch in high school listening to it on headphones and suddenly realizing that I loved electronic music.

Looking back if I had to pick one album that moved my musical tastes towards what they are today, I would pick Movement in Still Life.

the first time I heard Juanita/Kiteless/To Dream of Love, the opening track (or rather, as the name suggests, a kind of 3 track jam lasting 16+ minutes) of Underworld's second album, Second Toughest In The Infants. I think it must have been in 1999 and I was doing my highschool exams. I remember it was great summer weather and a friend had given me this album on a cassette. So I used to lie in the grass in front of the school during breaks, listening to this on my walkman and something just clicked. The deep melancholy feel of this music perfectly matched my mood at that time I guess. I was also reading The Secret History by Donna Tartt at the time and again the tone and feel of that book somehow just matched with the music as well. It was a very deep and emotional experience, of course strengthened by the fact that I was 16 or 17 years old and having exam stress, looking for some kind of escape from the real world whenever possible.

The first track on Original Pirate Material.

Nothing ever sounded quite the same after that album..

Okay,,
i'll barge in here.
I'm an old man,, so my tastes go wayyyy back.
I'm not sure there was a single record or song that changed my way of seeing things, but there have been some that put a turn in the road.
Jimi Hendrix/Led Zepplin. first and foremost, just great songs,, secondly, they didn't sound like any one else,,
Son House,, death letter blues,, bone chilling the first time.
The doors,, all of it,,
Mike oldfield/Pink floyd,, tubular bells/dark side of the moon,, my first exposure to head phone sex,,
Blondie,, heart of glass,,,
Debbie harry,,, Rapture,, the beginning of my hip hop phase,,,
Van Halen 1,, Made me take guitar playing serious while still having fun,,,
The Police,, Roxane,, snotty attitude,, massive chops,, great song,,,
There and back-Jeff Beck,, i heard this before wired and fell in love with the sound of it,,, jeff and tony hymas brilliant combination,,, probably my introduction to synths,,
Herbie Handcock. Future shock,, mostly because of the bill laswell connection,, went back from there,,
Bitches Brew/in a silent way,,,
Continum,, Jaco Pastorius,,
started listening to a lot of left field fusion,, Material,, band-x,, any thing with laswell or Arthur Baker involved,,
Brian Eno/David Byrne,, my life in the bush of ghosts,, came out just as i was discovering the philosophy of music concrete,,,
Crass,, Throbbing Gristle,, Psychic TV,, not records so much,, just kinda being there,, Lots of other stuff happening as well,, early big audio dynamite gigs, the chiefs of relief,, stone roses,, massive attack,, jesus and mary chain,, my bloody valentine,,NIN,, lots of people using the studio as a sound design tool and the start of cheap recording,,
One of the biggest records for me around this time was DJ Shadow "Introducing"
This one truly did blow my mind,,
The beastie boys,, Pauls Boutique,,
Beck,, midnight vultures.
Robbie Robertson,, contact from the underworld of redboy,, if you haven't heard this record,, get out and get it now!! a great mix of cut and paste sampling, sound design and sound manipulation and acoustic recording,,,
BT,, MISL and This Binary Universe,,,
SASHA,, air drawn dagger,,

Umm,,Umm,, probably lots more,, but that about sums it up for now,,,

this definately helped.

my track is Green Velvet "Flash". can remember hearing this at Pressure in Glasgows Arches in 2000. My mates turned round to me when it started and said 'this track will blow your mind'. It did. Discovered the Carl Craig mix of it last year, i'd say that the CC mix is my favourite mix of it now.
