+1 gomi,
BinaryB, what your asking is whats the best way to run pirated software. Which doesn't really bother me, I just find it ironic that on this board a guy gets chewed up if he even alludes to using a pirated ableton live - but cracking osx & its applications is A-OK.

good luck with your studies :)

firstly, if all the gear in it has drivers that are tried and tested for the hardware by the "insanelymac" and "osx86project" people I think you'll be pretty ok

but if you only need a desktop you could get a mac Mini for $599 - 1.83GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
1GB memory
80GB hard drive
http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/W ... p/mac_mini

you'd probably get a CRT and key/mouse for $30 somewhere

and to be honest after trying it and using it on a PC laptop, I would seriously think about the mac mini if it's not necessary for it to be a laptop

I'm not a big fan of these kind of unsupported things because as the others have said, you will probably spend alot of your time researching and troubleshooting

of course if you are happy to do the research and do get hardware that is tried and tested you may not spend much time on it - there are alot of people having good results out there

but if you just want to work and not tweak I'd personally get the mac MINI

I only put it on my laptop because i needed some mac apps for uni - some programs that will never be ported (and I was curious) but there are a few problems that I'd rather not have -

in a way I wish I had got the macbook after all, at least my dual boot would be legit and clean and work properly - but the 13" monitor put me off and I got 2ce the ram and hard-drive and also got a DVD writer with this HP, so it's a tradeoff

it does work, and alot of things work well, but it's really annoying when it doesnt because it always feels slightly messy and you have to spend a long time looking for answers and those OSX hacker forum people arent that friendly

and I hate being non-legit anyway

getting updates is not straightforward either

so, personally I think if you really do need OSX and only have that much cash I'd get the MINI

[edit; you'd also get a student discount]

Now i realise why people here are so sensitive. Because i am a 6'3 110kg sensitive hottie. :)

I wouldnt bother with OSX if they didnt kidnap Logic.
I have owned Logic since Version 2 (1996)and spent about $3500 it including upgrading it to V.7 and i have a copy of OSX and LIVE and DSP-quattro and komplete... and more... so...
FUCK ANYONE WHO GIVES ME ATTITUDE ABOUT THIS CRACKING SHIT

I am a pro = i get paid for my skills... so i spend money on what makes me money. I am a business therefore i can play the same games Steve-"blow"-Jobs can play. History will show that Geur;lla warfare has proven quite successful. So big business can bend over and taste it baby, yeah thats it feel it slap n grind, smooth but rough, like when clay meets the chopped liver.

I am using my brains to get what other yuppy scum just buy with their daddys money. (or work hard for, save and sacrifice to get)

People are so quick to jump the gun here on this forum. I love it.
and i love humus, cheese and crackers. Especially if they are free
and given to me with some constructive criticism.

Humus tastes much better when it is fresh.
Also It doesnt give you explosive farts.

I suggest you try it with a sprinkle of paprika on the humus too. quite nice.

BTW a decent person has PM'ed me with some excellent specs and information so...

Farewell to those who have contributed to this thread. I guess i did some barking. But hey - I got a backbone and I tell it how it is.

Anyone want some answers about getting on with avoiding the corporate bully. PM me.

Adios Amigos.

I eat humus regularly :)
As for me...I'm just highlighting the 'irony' of this forum. Blasting guys for cracking ableton, and promoting the cracking of osx as if its their god given right to use it for free, simultaniously ignoring the fact they'll need to crack whatever software they plan on running too. Fun times!

I'm just looking forward to the next guy's post who's giving instructions on how & where to get cracks of ableton. Someone please do it! use an anonymizer or something and post with a ghost nick :) :) :)

be sure to post tips on how to get around abletons piracy protection too, you know...where it craps out after a month or so of usage... is there a way around that ?
