My deepest condolences.
I agree about the fact that a new toy gear tool creates the need for it.
Logic is the trojan horse for Apple Hardware. We had too much of a good time
with Core 2 Duos... it's time to create a CPU hog.
What I do not like of this IT industry, it's the false ads they put around.
A week ago I resurrected a PIII 800 with 512MB RAM and 30 GB HDD, installed there both XPSP2 and UBUNTU. Well all the Internet content was available at a 'normal' speed. I added Openoffice for writing and tested it as a sequencer (MIDI + 8 Audio tracks) well it did fine. So what? All depends on what you really need. After every new CPU they say you can do more more more...but I still browse Internet, get e-mail write articles, check my expenses. When it comes to music sure you have to own a powerful computer, but unless you're a pro you don't need all those bells and whistles. CPU becomes more powerful, then let's hire a mass of under leveled programmers, it the code sucks, well what's the matter in getting some CPU cycles for us. CPUs get smarter and faster but PC still needs 45 secs to boot..... Regarding Logic I want to say that sure it's a good bang for the bucks but it's sure a CPU hog, look at the specs. That's what makes me mad. They use Object oriented technology and then they came out with buggy software and CPU/Memory hogs. If only we had wiser Programmers, we could make a better use of all this power we've got in our hands today...

I'll be happy to use logic studio if Apple, my employer, gives it to me.
But, it never will replace Live to me. Not the same tool.
MAybe if I set a studio up, then it'll be great.
No competition and I certainly don't want Ableton to try to step up or do better w/ a Live 7 etc..
I'm still not use to Live 6, being a user since v2, so please abes, leave us alone for a while, make L6 smoking great w/ a few wishlist..

live 7 i bet will be a monster.
logic 8 looks so nice, i am thinking about buying one of $2000 dongle (mac pro).
but then again the ball is in ableton court now.
competition is great. thanks again apple for logic 8.
p.s. ableton, i have my upgrade money ready for live 7 because i know is it going to be a monster. it has to be.
Maybe you should post your thank yous on Logic's forum? Just a thought.

yes but new toys always equal inspiration
whether it's a new record or mp3 jam or new synth opened fresh out the box it's always inspiring
so a new toy (not just a toy mind) at an affordable price is all the inspiration some folks need
---------------------
sure there's all kinds of ways to inspire ones creative juices but there's nothing like some brand new software or hardware to really get the juices (ahh) flowing
so, while Logic isn't a better program per se it is a neat little (not so little) thing within $$$$ reach and you never know - you might crank out a new jam just from the inspiration alone
f it - I'm selling my vaio just to jump on the band wagon - $499 can't be over looked ... the amount of usable sh*t you get for next to nothing is practically a steal
I don't know

It's true, I was just going to mention that!! Plus Live is only TRUELY an 8 bit processing DAW, but updithers to 24 bit in order to compete with the real daws. You can get around that with the modulation curve hack, but it's still not the same.

what is this hack about? Where has this been discussed? (I just searched for "modulation curve hack" and came up with nothing.

Actually I'm an American citizen and I don't require a lecture on the Constitution. My point is that this is a forum for Ableton Live users, and I don't see the purpose of you posting about another application...let alone posting that Live isn't in it's class.
Is that ok with you?

I would say that 80 % or more of the posts on this forum have nothing to do with Ableton and there is loads of talk about other applications. What's the big deal?
