To me, there is nothing worse than comedy music. When people answer the question, "So what music do you like?" the often tend to say "anything but country." My answer is "anything but comedy music." Generally the most unlistenable stuff. Herpes sore.
You got a problem with Weird Al?
Not a problem, no. But the point is, it's not HIS MUSIC, it's somebody else's. You listen to Weird Al for the joke, not the song. He wrote funny lyrics. The energy he puts into it is writing a joke. Listening to a comedy song over and over would be like having someone tell you a joke over and over. You aren't going to give a shit by the 4 listen. How many times over can you listen to a song of his? You don't keep listening for the music, if you did, you'd listen to the originals. I'd say Tenacious D is the closest to a comedy songwriting person/group that gives a crap about the actual music. And it still gets old fast.

Don't listen to anything I did before 1997. You might get a whole lot of herpes.

Fair enough about Weird Al. I was just joking but you have to at least acknowlege that he provides a good laugh towards people who take themselves too seriously.
I also agree that Tenacious D gets old fast. The Jack Black thing never really did it for me.
Still I love humerous music. i know i've been plugging Ween quite a bit lately (they are the best living band right now after all) and i'd consider them a comedy act to some degree who care immensely about their music.
I'd say its their instrumentation that makes this palatable after 4 listens (most of the time more details emerge with each listen).
Wevie Stonder is pretty funny as well.
Any other funny stuff out there???

My friend does some comedy music here in Chicago and kind've blowing up now. He's been on a European tour, opened for Tenacious D, and was recently featured in the paper for the death threats he received because of his song "50 Cent is a Pussy". Comedy Music is great in small venues - it's basically a party.

"Fuck Guitar Center"
"50 Cent is a Pussy"
"The Bush Song"

The 50 Cent song is hysterical. But death threats, c'mon. You have to be able to shake that kind of shit off when you're at that level.
Oh, and the vocal arrangement on the Bush Song is impressive.
Thanks for that.
Reminds me of Flight of the Conchords.

BTW Stephen Lynch is definitely comedy music and he is hilarious. Worth checking out if you've never seen his thing on comedy central.
