So, are you impressed ??
We can have this back and forth discussion ad nauseam.
you need a new drum machine, and I need crossfades.
you need a better EQ, and I need being able to fully merge sets (including automation on returns).
you are excited to get a new analog emulation synth, and I want to be able to work with clip groups, track folders and multiple takes.
Besides stating personal preferences, the only argument I can advance is that there are features that can be achieved via third party plugins and there is basic workflow. For me, priority is for the latter. Granted, there are some workflow advancements in this update, but not enough to justify waiting another year.
When I started actively using Live (version 3), I was very excited about its creative possibilities and it was easy to overlook the limitations. Four updates later, with lots of effort invested in finishing productions in Live, it is getting increasingly hard to justify the lack of basic features fundamental to any DAW.
now -- back to music.

I'm in for the whole package.
$150 or whatever for the improvements in 7 is worth it, sidechaining, drum rack, all that, no brainer.
Electric made me cream my pants, no brainer. LOVE that thing.
Analog - just like I like Operator for being built into Live, analog is an AM synth, a nice compliment to Operator, SOLD.
tension - not released yet
new drum sounds and stuff - maybe
I don't get why people are being so pissy, $150 for the improvements, big deal, get a job, hippy!!! then on the other end other uses see the $1,000 price tag, that can tell another story if you don't look into it.
get an LE or whatever free version from buying some bit of kit, upgrade to the full version, save some wonga.

I am definitely in for the upgrade, which is a deal, hello, 99 euros for 8 or 10 features which people have been requesting for quite some time! If they didn't hit your personal list, well, that's life isn't it, but I think its disingenuous to complain that they don't listen to their user base- they clearly do.
And there are many features (tempo nudge, the awesome new drum machine, tempo changes...) which are oriented toward performance uses, so saying that its only for the soundtrack market is a bit silly as well.
As far as the instruments and content, well, I may plug for the drum samples and maybe for the instruments. I don't really exploit the instruments that I have now to their fullest, but hey, I tend to learn by just having things around to pick up when the mood strikes me. I don't have a hell of a lot of content so this could be a good way to stoke my sample library while giving my money to Ableton development - a good long term investment, if you ask me!

I don't have to type much because it's all getting said, I have to go with number 7 in the poll, I will be upgrading a.s.a.f.p!! Looking forward to it, more to like, that does it for me!.

I work for a software company that does exactly what you say but we charge almost 20% of the Licence price yearly for support including free upgrades. Companies need to pay salaries. Support is the way the software industry uses to milk the customer base. Ableton has a 1st class support when compared to Apple, or others especially if you think that it comes for free. The 1 year cycle is an alternative to make cash by charging support and in my opinion it is a better way. What would you say if Ableton cost 350$ and 1 year support (including patches) would be an additional 70$ or 25$ per request/incident? Of course this model cannot be applied to the Music Software industry. That's why IMHO Ableton does what it does. Remember that they're constantly improving the product along the year.inmazevo wrote: I've said it before, and I'll say it again.
I wish companies would not release every year. It makes the releases smallish to many (me included), and they end up coming up with convoluted upgrade "packages" to make up for what they know should be a bigger release.
Do more to the application, even if it takes 18 months instead of 12-14.
I'm skipping Sonar 7 for this very reason, though I agree with kb420 that Live 7 looks to be a better upgrade than Sonar 7.
I'm now quite solidly on an "every-other-release" schedule. I'm done with 12 month release cycles. That'll teach 'em!!!![]()

If I had to pay seventy quid just for the external instrument plug-in I would do. No more double tracks for midi and rewire tracks where one will do.
And it will surely mean that I won't need to go any where near that horrible [in my opinion] new sequencer in Reason 4.
I'm very impressed with the whole upgrade, although I don't think I'll be getting some of the other sample and instrument bundles.

it almost makes you think they should drop the price and start charging extra for support for those who want it
there would be loads of people who would never use it
but of course if they did that everyone would bitch about having to pay for support and forget all about the previously higher prices
Although I'm not so fond of v6 that I don't use in it's full power,
I hate those yearly release, without real improvements to the main thing.
Every release will contend some, maybe most but not all. normal.
If I do upgrade i'll get the big package. No point to get just the basic.
I never got Sampler and Operator, too expansive. so plenty new instruments is exiting
The new features for Time sig and vid are real cool but I want a more live oriented
stuff.
CPU friendly as well as user friendly gui is the main thing.
I use v5 and v6 as much and having a learning curve of 3 month every year is getting sometimes annoying.
v6 never reached 6.5 or 6.1 actually.
W/ live 6 and now 7, it's playing alongside main DAW.... why?

#3 here...
I will do the basic download upgrade for the improved core engine and Rex support. Not much else interests me, I've got all the effects and instruments I need right now...was definitely hoping for more workflow improvements.
