Ok, more about Belgium please.

Particularly what the obstacles would be for an american graphic artist, his photographer wife, and their 6 animals to make the move permanently.

Request political asylum perhaps?

:?

I'm far from Belgium :D

But one thing I learn't living with many people in a strange scenario a few years ago is one of the reasons why you must want to move there.... great people mate ;)

If you have a job or sufficient funds to live... There are no obstacles as far as I can tell. You can get by with knowing a bit of the language. Dutch is fairly easy to pick up and it actually sounds kinda classy with an american accent.
We got people migrating here from North-Africa. I doubt it'll be an issue if you're from North-America.

Having 6 dogs may be the problematic part. Let alone finding a place with a big enough yard, how the hell do you get em here in one trip?
That'll be a fun flight. 14-ish hours of going barking mad :D

I guess if the answers frighten me I should stop asking scary questions :)
I love reading critisism from people of the country that produces "Jimmy Dean's Saucage wrapped in a chocolate chip pancake on a stick"
:) ah, damnit sirrah, and well struck! :) the US of A, where anything good is betterer skewered, dipped in batter and deep fried

The comparison to Canada seems valid (where, of course, they serve fries with gravy, not to mention poutine)...

There are a lot of job postings in Belgium, seems like the place is booming

Here in Maryland too! I grew up on fries and gravy, it's the shiz man. Not much different than mashed potatoes and gravy when you think about it.

Good stuff!

sprinkle a little bit of Old Bay on that mess, uyummm.

but, back to Belgium, despite Macrostructure's offhand swipe :) it seems like it could be a pretty cool experience. Any place that spawned a band like K's Choice must have something going right.
