ok... ROLL CALL!

Let's see who's expressed interest thus far:

Me n' Bigbone from Montreal
CRT and Rich in Boston
Rahlo in Indianapolis
Ryan in Charolettesville Virginia
Tjwett in Brooklyn / Mahnattan
Cosmosuave in Toronto
and
Brautigan in Philly

I'll spend a cuople of hours with Mapquest and AAA maps tonight and look at some possible routes and scenarios, and see if we can concievably make a tour of this.

I'll drop a Private Message or email to each of us tomorrow to get contact info spread around, etc. If you want to contact me, drop me a PM, and I will give you my email - I don't put my email on the internet (counter spam measures...)

Lastly, we should all share some music with each other - kinda "quality control", to quote Jurasic 5... So, when you RSVP to my email or PM, please include a link to some of your music (if it's online) or we can hook up some CD transfers.

I am not gonna be so monomaniacal as to think that I will be the sole arbiter of taste here - this will be a (gasp!) consensus thingy, so each participant should have access to each other participant's music.

However, I HATE it when I am the sole person doing stuff, we should be a team; so I will be a prick here - minimal cooperation (eg. me having to chase you down and pester you to get contact info, music or help) will result in a name stricken off the list.

I don't like to be harsh like this, but it's gotta be that way if we want to get this thing on the road so to speak.

However, I am confident that this is totally doable with the right gumption!

OK. This forum is public, so we have to keep personal info off of here. If you have any issues that we need to discuss privately, email me or PM me.

The way I see this working, I will probably rent a van for the tour. I figure that will cost a fair bit, but it's cheaper (and better for mental health) than taking buses, considering we would have to have tickets for all of us. I will take reimbursement for the van from revenue (the door, after we pay the venue). My philosophy is keep it as cheap as possible and get lots of people in there. I won't pay $20 for a show of people I don't know, and I don't expect anybody else to either.

Also, if you can only play in your hometown, let me know. OR, if you only WANT to play certain cities, we can arrange that too. OR, if you don't want to play at all and just want to check out the show and host some folks for a while, that's cool too - let me know ASAP so I don't do any unnecessary planning.

For venues, don't bust your neck just yet, until we get an approximate set of dates. I am thinking June-ish; is this reasonable?

I guess that's it for now - expect a large volume of posts here from me, I will be using this forum as my primary means of communication, with email or telephone for personal biz only.

MAN, that's some mindbending shit!

I am totally diggin it...

Also, I have a tentative tour schedule here. It's not rock solid, but it's based on minimum driving distance between shows. Plug in the dates once we firm up a few things...

Also, there is no requirement to start in Charlottesville - we could just as easily start in any of the cities, and work our way around the circle... Also, we could reverse the order if necessary.

I would suggest starting in NY or Boston - there's the most people in the immediate area, and while it would be a pain for a couple of us to get to the start point, it would be easiest for the majority.

ALSO, with the longer legs of the trip (between Charlottesville, Indianapolis, and Toronto) should not be at the beginning of the trip - otherwise we won't have our set up and tear down procedure practiced. I am confident that we can drive a thousand kilometers in a day, but it will be HARD work - we will have to leave early, and when we arrive we would have to set up in time. Further to this, we don't want to end the tour with long road distances, when we're all dog tired. It's asking for a bone smashing accident.

Another considation is to minimize border crossing, so we aren't wasting time getting the full inspection from customs officer Hans "cucumber-fingers" Von Prober every two days.

So, this is only a SUGGESTION, but it seems to me that the best order is:

Day 1: Start in New York NY play first show.

Day 2: New York NY to Philadelphia PA 97 miles 156 Km

Day 3: Philadelphia PA to Charlottesville VA 393 miles 632 Km

Day 4: Charlottesville VA to Indianapolis IN 606 miles 975 Km

Day 5: Indianapolis IN to Toronto ON 558 miles 898 Km

Day 6: Toronto ON to Montreal QC 337 miles 542 Km

Day 7: Montreal QC to Boston MA, play last show. 310 miles 499 Km

Finish in Boston MA

This way we start and end in Boston and NY, which are closest for the most of us, and we only cross borders twice.

Sound OK? Your thoughts, complaints or comments?

Also, for any other Live users who fall enroute of this rotation, feel free to let us know if you're interested...

Thanks Adam! That's great info, we may look into the same venue. I personally won't make it for your eliminations, sorry. But, the info regarding sponsorship and so forth is great news!

I gotta clear this with the other tour participants, but;

What about the possibility of the winner of the contest coming back when we're intown, and hosting the ableton users from elsewhere, kind of a "local boy defends his title against the invading hordes" sorta thing?

Just a thought...

Well -

I know Cosmosuave was thinking around the week of June 11, and I have two weeks off work around 23 June - 5 July. However, I can bookoff any time from now to 5 July, but once July starts, it's a no-go for me.

Here's a proposed schedule...

1.Recruit performers: End of April

2.Plan route and establish dates: 07 May

3.Research requirements of US and Canadian Government for Work Permits: 07 May

4.Performers to arrange venues: Completed by 15 May ***This may require deposits - if so, we will have to investigate how we will pay a deposit, I will be asking Ableton for some $ up front***

5.Submit budget to Ableton: 15 May

6.Design flyers and other promotional material for tour: 21 May

7.Performers receive Flyers and promotional material to distribute in their cities: 30 May

8.Book rental van: arranged by 30 May

9.Arrange work permits for US citizens to play in Canada and vice-versa: 07 June

10.Performers arrange transportation to and from start and end points:
07 June

11.Reconfirm sleeping arrangements and finalize details: 15 June

12.Performers meet in New York City to commence tour: ??? June

I wuold like a "vote" on the start date: I don't see myself being able to get the arrangements necessary in place before early-June. Please post your preferred start date to this forum, (Try to keep it in the Juneish time frame, and we will work from there. Naturally, depending on venue availability, we may have to "massage" the tour dates a bit, but I would rather not once they're set. I would rather switch venue (it's only one day of interruption) than switch dates (which causes us to switch in EVERY other city).

Sound cool?

I'm cool with June 11th or later. Has a dialogue with Ableton been initiated yet?

I have May 23 through June 4 available. After that June 23rd through July 10 is the next block of time I have open.

There are a ton of details that have to happen to make this tour work, but I would think this is gonna be the stickiest part--making all the personal schedules mesh.

I have a letter drafted - I am having somebody proof it (always a smart idea) and I will be sending it to Claudia Weidner (Ableton Public Relations) as soon as I get it back.

I will send a copy of the draft to all involved tonight.

hey mbreaks, quandry/Ryan here from Charlottesville. Just wanted to drop back in and say I'm still definitely down, but will most likely only be able to do the hometown gig (or maybe one or two others) here in Charlottesville, VA. I can definitely hook up places to stay, provide a decent PA, and should be able to get us a gig with some sort of guarantee. The place I play the most that would be best suited to this doesn't do cover charges--all live music is free. My band gets a $300 guarantee there, which is actually one of the best bar deals in town. I would hope we could get at least that for this project. Its a venue called Orbit--bar, small dancefloor, couches and tables downstairs, poolhall upstairs. On a good night, you might have 40-50 people in the downstairs music space at any one time, and almost as many more upstairs. Over the course of a good night, you might get 100 people that at least hear/see the music, though every night is not a good night, and this is a college town, so a lot of the kids are home or elsewhere for the summer.

Basically I just wanted to drop some logistics to make sure y'all don't come out of the way here just to be possibly dissapointed by low turnout and pay, sleeping on floors and such. That said, I would do all I can to promote this through every possible means here-two college radio stations, mad flyers, two local weekly newspapers, and the local daily paper, and beggin friends to come to yet another gig. I think we'd do allright. Just wanted to clarify and make sure coming to these parts is worth everyone's while. Thanks again for this great concept and all the work you've done, let me know if I can help.

That's excellent news Ryan! Any paying gig where we don't have to throw down a deposit on renting a venue and charging at the door is 1. easier and 2. a better deal for Ableton, cause they get more exposure at a free admission gig. Nobody is expecting a stay at the Ritz Carlton hotel or anything, and nobody is gonna be disappointed at getting to play in a totally new town!

Cool!
