Hey ethios,

really liked what you are working on, sounding very fourtet which I like a lot ;)

Looking forward to hearing how it turns out mate ;)

Glad to hear it's an appreciated direction to go.

I haven't been able to find the Chris Leibing - Razzia 2 track to listen to, so I have no idea if what I'm doing there bears any relation. Probably not :) It's a lot of fun to mess with polymeter...now I'm going to go back in a try to make it a little more sensible...

I'm at a desk so it was done through my laptop speakers - there may be no bass - hence no bassline

but the idea is there - with the delays and reverb

pm me and we can chat - I'll be back on big speakers in the am

nice! that's exactly the style of drumkits i'm talking about

wanna share the .als ? :D :D

would help me a lot in understanding the technique....

Cool - unfortunately today I'm at the school all day but here's some ideas to get you started

delay and feedback

not 1/2 1/4 or 1/8th delays but

1's and 1/3's <-- sounds like a shuffle

run a basic kick clap hat pattern with any ole drum kit through a send track with your delay set to one of those settings -

compress hard - like threshold all the way down - then play with the ratio, release and attack until you get something pumping

throw a verb under the compressor so you get some ghostly pumps (that's odd but I said it ;) )

tomorrow i'll be able to send you a .als and if you have gmail we can chat and work through some stuff

aight - word

peace

sounds cool. thanks mate.

my gmail name is equal to my forum username... :)

anyway i'm already trying this setup, i'm just not sure about which compressor
to use. compressor II from live?

what about dynamic tube. it seems like a compressor to me. what's the
difference? what does it do?

just an FYI I'm still on 5.2.2 (Ableton wont let me upgrade because I'm not in the beta testing, but that's neither here nor there) so I really can't comment on the Dynamic Tube plug-in you speak of

I use the Compressor 2 - it sounds cleaner than compressor 1

crank that threshold down to nothing, or if that sounds awful not to nothing

really a lot of what's going on is the delay and reverb being compressed - the compression when tweaked right will allow rhythmic fluctuations of nuances to come through - gives the impression your loop is alive

I can't personally speak for Ben Sims or Chris but from what I hear in their music they can take a good loop and not do much to it - but it sounds good and better and better as the loop plays on

I've achieved some good results with playing with the feedback - from extreme to none

have fun and we'll chat

peace

you need to run around 20 loops of different orgins at the same time thru some distortion and delay..mix that with a very loud 4 on the floor 909 kick and kompress this heavily with a long attack time, so that the mud gets structurized by the kick... do 20 tracks in 1 hour and choose the one that reminds most to a groove

Those drums are ace, man. Thanks for posting a sample. I've never really experimented with compressing an fx chain on a send... looking forward to fiddling with this some more.

Maybe the Razzia 2 wasn't the best example?

http://www.discogs.com/release/41637

In the notes:
"Tina from www.cl-rec.com says that this release is NOT from Chris Liebing."

Is this the wrong one?

i haven't heard that song from "Eric Sneo".

i guess it's a different song with the same track name and
that might be the reason for that comment below :)
