This is the exact same problem I had last week, works fine for about 50 minutes to an hour, then starts dropping out for no reason:

Installing the asio4all drivers and playing with that (disable inputs, and direct access) a bit got me sorted right away, no more problems and my CPU meter went down substantially too.

BTW, no need to use Win98 still, you should definitely get an XP upgrade, it's definitely worth it.

same shit is happening with the OSX.
For some reason, Ableton won't do nothing.
