The bundle factor is definately helpful/useful and less messy than using assorted vst plugins from various manufacturers.
If it works for you then you gotta use it. They are tools like anything else, I think the 2 things that put me off most about waves are 1) price - yes the bundles are steep but are priced more sensibly than the individual plug ins at 200 dollars each, that is just insane in some cases.
Probably more than anything, it's not a criticism of the plugins more of the amount of assholes that think that running a cracked copy of Waves in their cracked copy of Fruity Loops or Cubase makes them the dude.
These people who barely know what a soundcard is for and have so little talent for mixing, whack on a plethora of Waves plugins because they want to look cool and shoot the breeze in torrent forums or whatever and have the LOUDEST mix.
The amount of music I've listened to on various web sites where people mentioned 'mastered in waves' or whatever that is fecking terrible, hyper compressed shit is unbelievable. Crank up the volume maximiser and the compressor on full and damn the consequences... I mostly avoid anything that mentions Waves (let's face it, there must be 500 cracked copies of the platinum bundle or whatever for every one legitimate sale) which is a pity because used properly the Waves plugins can be an amazing tool. I like C4, IR-1, Maxxbass, Linear EQ and Trans X in particular.
You're correct that Sonalksis costs more and they don't exactly have a hundred plugin bundle but I feel the quality is better - to my subjective ears. Some of the plugs in those bundles are just redundant, you will find the one or two compressors you like and use those, the other 5 in the box will just lay dormant except for the very rare occasion maybe.
And for me, UAD is the king. Sorry. I know you're going to need 2 or 3 of them to rival the platinum collection (and in some areas, Waves have plugins not duplicated in UAD) but UADs compressors, EQs, space echos and Dimension D (the best chorus around) and stuff are just the dogs nuts for me.

t be honest what should i care for the tasteless mass plague out there? they can´t tell coke from pepsi, yong from l1 or whatever. not my problem. i know there is a huge difference between pepsi and coke, therfore i can decide. simple thing hm?

But I would take PSP's mastering compressor or Kjaerhus MPL-1 PRO or Voxengo Elephant over any Waves limiter/compressor. Sonalksis's compressors sound better than Waves too but the cost is getting up there a bit. You can buy Voxengo's paid plugins for 50-90 bucks each and almost every one of them sounds better than the equivalent Waves plugin.

so waves has spawned off a division of ambulance chasing lawyers. the dude on the right is a total fucking creep, the type to be whispering to a US politician "you don't recall that, sir" during a Congressional investigation.
they're doing their due diligence inside the law. the party's not over for crackheads but it has changed. there's no justification for cracks, whine for a better trial version. the reality is that cracks are part of both sides of the game, so it goes.

Try using some of the alternatives and then you'll see how much BS it really is.
But of course, you couldn't possibly be wrong !! Just like the Cubase sounds better than Live thread.... I use both and I know the answer to this one. Just because something has a long standing reputation doesn't make it better !!
So I don't expect you to confess to liking something equally or more, even if you do... but try the PSP Mastering Compressor. Try Sonalksis's compressor/limiters. Try Elephant by Voxengo - it's an awesome mastering limiter than can do a heck of a lot for only 80 bucks. Or pay nearly treble for L1 just because it's by Waves.
I have at least tried using an L1 as well as L2 and L3 to base my comparison on and that was when I was a sheep following the 'Waves costs more, so it must be better' herd. I woke up and smelt the coffee my friend
And I'm not a Waves hater, really. I like some of their other plugins a lot but due to their shenanigans with copy protection, ripping people off in insurance/upgrades and their recent ploy of sending out undercover agents to bust people using cracks (actually not too much against this, but the shadiness of it is kind of repulsive) I don't own any of their products. Read some of my comments on the other threads, I named at least 5 waves plugins I think are exceptional. But not enough to make me want to buy th e whole bundle and I won't run cracked software. How legit is yours, BTW ??

stay with the facts. i don´t like most of waves more than comparable, only maxbass, l1 and for some, most electronic/digital purpose c4 though i find it bit too harsh meanwhile. but l1 to me really is the wonderchild, despite what you might think the reasons could be for that. mine is just the way it feels when used moderate, there the job is done better by nothing i know. and sure i tested psp, voxengo, sonalksis and mpl-1; and especially sonalksis were ok, but not the same regarding simplicity and precisely the effect i wanted to have for those cases. there were a minor few where for instance the mpl-1 seemed first choice, why not? i more believe in modularity than monarchy.
further i never could experience the same with l2 or l3. so i´m not a fan of waves but the really great l1.
(and the intended-to-be-funny-entertainment cubase vs. live thread, back then it really looked that way that i was hearing a difference that let cubase win. but i couldn´t go deeper or somehow prove it cause its a horror to use when you work the way i´m into. please don´t confront me seriously with that experiment for the rest of my life, you´re worse than my parents in this

Just made my first post on SOS since 2005:
And that's what buying Waves plugins is: funding an operation who view their customers primarily as objects to squeeze for money, and everyone else as potential thieves.I wrote:Legally, piracy is not theft, it is breach of copyright law.
Fascism, however, is fascism, no matter how you bend it.
I personally think funding fascism is much, much worse than breaking copyright law.
Suit #1: I mean, have you got any insight as to why a bright boy like this would jeopardize the lives of millions?
Suit #2: No, sir, he says he does this sort of thing for fun.

I don't like the L1 at all. I actually think that the L1 is one of the causes if not the cause of the loudness war. All it does is brickwall limit, meaning limit (chop") the peaks and create inter-sample peaking. Have you ever looked at a waveform that ran through an L1? Terrible!radib wrote: further i never could experience the same with l2 or l3. so i´m not a fan of waves but the really great l1.
When it comes to limiters I prefer either the Sony Oxford Limiter or the TC Electronic MD3/4 over the L1 any day.
I own the Waves Platinum bundle and don't even remember the last time I've used a Waves plugin. What they're doing is total BS. They're so greedy with their WUP, it's ridiculous. You pay a certain fee, based on the bundle you own so that you can get their tech support, and that after spending thousands of dollars on their software!

many people who do like Waves plugins needn't worry about WUP as they are running cracks they downloaded with limewire anyway
They needn't worry until the Waves police come armed with a subpoena and a 5000 dollar settlement deal, at least
I agree with you on the L1 too, the SOny Oxford limiter is nice, as are the ones I mentioned previously.

I never master anything myself and hardly use VSTs other then synths so never cared about Waves other that they might be partially responsible for those horrible mastering mal practices of past decade
