there will always be haters.

truth: live's core market are people that want an innovative sequencing program, and those that wish to turn there computers into an instrument, regardless of age or social class.

To "guest" (first poster)

What are you ?
The post modernest version of Marcel Deauchamp?

Known most famously for the cubistly abstract "Con-descending a Staircase" .

At 36 years of age some of us know better.
Nice to know you are at one with the universal Zen Paradox.

May your epitaph read -
ALL HAIL THE OXYMORON

I rest my case.

47 here......... if liking Live lumps me into your "kiddie class", so be it.

I know good tools when I use them, and Live is definitely one of those. I wish like hell I had this when I was 15......! I was no less creative then than I am now, and having tools like Live to express that creativity is the schiznit, no matter what age you are.

Check it out:
With Live, I can compose, stack, mix, merge, stretch, adjust, tweak, mix some more, and sketch freely........ all in one window!

I can play my guitars, outboard keys, sing, stomp, shout, clap and record it all in Live... live....

I can jam, collaborate, improvise, & mosh with other musicians, and capture those sessions with unrivalled ease...

And with the addition of Midi, VSTi/AU and more, now I can do it with all my instrument plugins too....

Hey.... so I gotta ask... what's not to love???

peace,
tribalogical

PS: I also use -- daily -- Reason (another musical "toy"?), Cubase SX, and Logic Pro... and I don't get lesser results from Live & Reason than I do from the "pro" apps... they compliment each other beautifully...

Hey Old Dude :-)

Remember the bad old days of recording in the 70's? When a reverb was a spring in a tank?

I wish someone could send my laptop with Live on it back in time to me when I was 15. In my wildest dream I couldn't have imagined it. What will recording be like when we're 90? In my wildest dreams...

hey man!

well, in another 40 years, we'll probably be recording directly from our brains (so, those 'wildest dreams' might become a reality!) 8O

If I could capture the symphonies I hear in my dreams... ooooh, that would be something....

yeah, those days... spring reverbs, replacing tubes, and four-track tape decks.... ping-ponging...! heheh....

I still like to mess about with the old gear to add a little 'true grit' to things... e.g. still have one of those old Boss Analog Delays (the guitar-effect stomp box, weighs about 10 pounds! :) )... a bit muddy, noisy, pre-midi... sounds brilliant in the mix though!

Music... whatever the tools, I'll be making it 'til I'm dead and gone.....!

Ableton Live is a beauty, nothing less can be said about it.

peace,
tribalogical

Im counting the days to 31 years now.
Man , there are some (!) interesting confesseions in this thread!

When I was 15 I got my first synth. A Casio CZ 5000! The great thing about that piece of hardware was that you could use the 8 voices for 8 individual sounds!!! So together with my Yamaha RX 21 drummachine I could make whole musical pieces!

then nothing happened

Then came Live! revolution! I would not have made music now, was'nt it for Live!

And then a few days ago the fourth generation was proclaimed.
As someone else said: I turned 16 again.

Who cares if Logic comes in verision 7. 8 or 10 (probably X) or Cubase or...

The "big three" have definately had their day, they've all felt like old fashioned, tired programs to me for ages now, Live 4 will be a shot in the arm. ..... if it all works 8O
