After using the 7.0.3 beta, I'd like to re-cast my vote for the macros to be Starting from the Top (K7 > Macro 1, K8 > Macro 2, K5 > Macro 3, ...). It makes more sense since when editing drum slices, the macros numbers disappear and you have labels like Attack, Decay, Sustain, Release instead of the macro numbers. So it would seem logical to have them start from the top left, left to right, top to bottom. Mapping these knobs to the macros is really useful feature. It opens up so many creative opportunities for drumming on the MPD24.

am i being really dense.. what is this 'instant mapping' being referred to ?
is there any way for the akai to automatically focus on the macro buttons (like automap)
at present i just manually re-assign every single time i open a new rack..

As of Live 7.03, the MPD24s sliders will be mapped to the first six track volume controls and the knobs will be mapped to drum macros. If you have MPD24 firmware 1.09, you can manually map the transport too, since Akai added CC to the transport.

hey channelite, thanks for the fast response. I obviously have my settings wrong, as that doesn't seem to be working ? what settings should I have for the control surface in and out ports - there's three to choose from ? i've successfully updated the os to 1.09, and have mapped the transport manually, but the macro assign just doesn't seem to be working annoyingly.. any advice gratefully received.. (even if i am on a pc !!)

I think you need the first of the MPD24's ports. Also enable Track, Sync and Remote in the Midi Ports section. Also I have found that if you have anything using the same midi channel and CC as the MPD24, that my cause it not to work. Like the knobs are supposed to be mapped to the drum macros, i.e, create an audio track to slices. I had a knob mapped to the master volume and that cause the macros not to work right. I guess the MPD24 can't handle double mappings. If you're having any other weird stuff not working with the MPD24, try it via midi instead of USB. Don't forget to be in the Live preset in the MPD24.

Hey channelite, there's some uselful points there, I'll try them out. cheers for taking the time to explain.
edit...
yes thats sorted it. i still had a few midi mappings stored from my previous controller conflicting with the default mappings (as you suggested may be the case).. now works a treat. thanks again

Also program change now works correctly. Hopefully Ableton is implementing the transport into the new mappings. I'm sure they are in the know already

I installed the 1.09 update and it turned my MPD24 into an expensive paperweight. It's at the repair shop now.
Has anyone updated to the 1.10 firmware?

Edit: I have a tendency to ramble. Relevant bits in bold.
I have. The Zyzex editor proved to be about as useful as a metaphor for something completely
useless, at least the version for OS X THE GREATEST FREAKIN' OPERATING SYSTEM ON THE FREAKIN' PLANET WOO YAH OS X FTMFW *cough*
so I had to use SysEx Librarian.
It loaded fine with no real performance-related issues, save that I had copied the Live template to the first preset location so I wasn't forgetting to switch it whilst in a drunken fog before every show (i getz butterflies. booze kills butterflies. and livers.). I had renamed the template from "Live" to "ZOMG Zed". It kept the preset name, but was back to whatever the default preset in position 1 is, which I don't know because it was still named "ZOMG Zed". It actually said "House of Zed", but that's hardly relevant except to me 'cause I perform as House of Zed. I mention this only in case you've changed the name of the preset.
It did behave sort of flaky, for lack of a better word, the first time I used it after the upgrade. It has worked just fine ever since, and the transport controls map nicely once they're changed from MMC to CC. That needs to be done directly on the device without using an editor, there isn't an update that reflects the change in the firmware.
Also,

Is this mapping already available? Did I miss it? And what about compatibility with Live 6. Is that or will that be ok?

The MPD24 mapping was added as of version 7.0.3.

There is no built in mapping for version six. You can still make your own Live template with your own mappings..

naah, you're right, its absolutely changed my life, i love it, my only gripe is i cant use the pads to do stepped midi cc entries like on a novation LE, limited to prg ch, and note, very akai.
whats better about the mpd32?
