I dunno guys, it could be snake oil or what not, but I swear that what I hear out of the digital outs sounds colder than what I hear out of the analog. But anyways, Tone is right, they should be very close, and even further, that the differences I hear could easily be coming out of various points of my signal chain.

Ultimately, if it sounds good, that's all that counts to me. I sold my Virus C, and I'm now using all softsynths, so I'm always looking to make my sounds more "gritty"...

I can completely absolutely hear the difference between acoustics, from the other side of the room with ear muffs on. completely irrelevant analogy, you're reaching pretty far there.

when I'm feeling better and can choose my words more carefully I'll link up some pages to A/D and D/A converters as well as SPDIF chips, you'll see that the noise and distortion specs are well below what you'll perceive.

anyway, use your ears, I encourage you to really think about this stuff and not buy into snake oil bullshit.

right. i just think cd's and tapes/records sound different. and tube tv's look different than digital tvs. head was on wrong that night...
