I've ordered online from Dolphin Music a couple of times and it's always worked flawlessly.

Generally though, I've learned that it's not much use to ask for advice in a music store. Seven times out of ten the guy will be unhelpful, stupid, or both. I like music stores cos I like trying stuff before buying it, but generally I prefer to do my own research.
Suit #1: I mean, have you got any insight as to why a bright boy like this would jeopardize the lives of millions?
Suit #2: No, sir, he says he does this sort of thing for fun.

Sound Control and Turkey aren't long the same company it was only mid 2007.

They were both terrible before that.

I found turkey to be OK if you knew who to ask. I got to know a decent french guy who was down stair and was super helpful but if you can't the bit of gear in your hand before you leave the store forget about it.

I had to cancel 2 orders for gear because they weren't going to turn up in time for a gig. (I had placed the order 2 weeks before hand, was assured the gear was in stock and would ship the same day only to find out 2 days before I had to fly to said gig that it had always been out of stock)

I'm just glad that Digital Viliage has opened up in Clapham which is pretty close to me. I've spent most of my cash there over the year and never had an issues that they weren't very helpful to help out (normally to my financial benefit).

i.e. I rang them about 2 weeks ago to ask if they had EastWest Symphonic Orchestra Silver edition & Pro pack (which for some reason were cheaper separately ) and they were like yeah sure we have it here in store. When I got there they were sorry that they only had the Pro upgrade and not the main package but they promised to deliver it for free next day (can't say fairer than that), next day they called to say they only had the bundled version which they would send me anyway, no extra cost (even though it cost more) and sure enough it arrived as promised. So now I have 2 copies of the Pro upgrade, so I can now flog one of them! Bingo

Been there a few times since when looking for equipment, and each time have been amazed by how patronising the staff have been considering their complete lack of product knowledge.

The customer service award clincher involved me having to ask two separate salesmen at the desk whether they had any condenser mics. One of them then grudgingly got some 'senior' salesman who "might know what i was going on about". He arrived, then went looking in the stock room for several minutes, came back with a seemingly random box and said "i think you mean cardioid, yeah?", and then acted surprised that I didn't want it.
I've always been happy going to digital village
+1
last month i was buying komplete 5 and an Akai mpk 49 plus the latest reason upgrade and i needed it quickly. So tried sound control and got some guy who said another guy would phone me about it. he never did so i phoned him instead and it emerged he had to phone the suppliers to get a price for across grade on komplete 5 although he sounded like he couldnt give atoss really. He promised to phone back needless to say - he never.
Soundcontrol are shite ! in my experience.and condesending

Shame that their North London store can't be bothered to reply to my email. Clearly they don't want my money...

It seems that customers generally expect stores to match internet prices. But stores (especially those in cities such as London) have larger overheads. So stores have to cut costs and, unfortunately, this invariably results in poor customer service (fewer, less well-paid, less experienced staff).

Until the market perceives that there is a critical mass of fed up customers who are prepared to pay more in order to get better service, I don't see it getting any better...

Useless bunch of careless idiots. Really dont care about their customers at all. I should have known when yesterday when I was queuing to buy my copy of guitar rig 3, and the guy in front of me in the queue was mouthing off for a full 10 mins about a guitar he brought months ago that has never materialised.
We all went there as a band, got strings, leads and an Alesis pad control thingie for the drummer. And i got the guitar rig copy ive been after for a while. Anyway, long story short, the Alesis unit didnt come with the supposedly supplied USB lead, power supply or installation CDs. And guitar rig didnt come with the CD / serial number either.
So thats two useless products that I have to trek back to the shop to replace. At my own transport costs. I might as well have used a faceless internet retailer. And I recommend you do too.
Sorry to rant, Im awfully riled and I want to help anyone else that may end up in a similar, frustrating boat.

i agree sound control are rubbish

did you know that SOUNDCONTROL OWNS TURNKEY, and are equally as useless.

I dont like Dolphin music - they told me that i should not buy an E-mu 1616M because the mic inputs are crap, the AD converters dont recreate the sounds as they should and that the whole unit would be inadequate for my needs - then they recommended M-Audio Firewire 410.

The m-audio stuff is ok, BUT - they said that after i said that i wanted a high quality output from laptop at all times IE echo indigo, and i wanted a load of IO, optical ADAT & SP/DIF.

What is more suitable than an emu 1616m - simply because they dont make as much money out of emu.

I reccommend Digital Reaction - www.digitalreaction.co.uk, proper good little outfit.
