It's very basic and made to be expanded. I used all defaults for the instruments, so the sounds should load up for everybody.

In all honesty I only spent about 2 minutes putting the sounds together for this set, there are 8 simplers on track 2. I wanted it to be easy to share.

There is one impulse on track one

scenes 1-8 on farmpad control impulse, and 9-16 control the simplers

load the set, launch the two clips, it will be silent.. plug away at the pads to activate notes.. expand the set and enjoy

launch farmpad with this command:

farmpad -s 1
Excellent work doc.. this is truly an elegant little step sequencer with farm pad..

This is great..

Now i want a combination of PK Squared and Farmpad functionality, with a dash of Mike@TrackTeams monomulator thrown in! it would be great for certain channels to send toggle midi data, and certain to send noteon/off, so i could setup some stuff like a drum pad, some stuff like a step sequencer, and some stuff for mutes/solos... darn it!

thanks knobby

theres a whole boatload of stuff you can do to the step sequencer to make it fun

the midi knobs/buttons for each scene change channel also, so you get control over the sound that way

i'll have at least two bars soon, so you can switch bars and link bars,

make clips missing notes, or rearrange the the notes, and fire those for neat changes.

add midi plugs to the sounds track to get more variation

there is a lot you can do with that thing to make it more fun! 8)

Wow! This farmpad is really amazing!

You have to dig deep into making a config file to your needs and setting the whole thing up with the step sequencer in live, but this is enormously flexible!

I'm not a programmer, but the structure and syntax of the config files is really easy to pick up - I'm just working on a config to expand the possibilities of doc holiday's version of the step sequencer...

First thing now though: I'll have to go to the Korg-board and see what flycicle posted on the farmpad...

(old forum rule: do a search before posting! ;-))

Nice :)

http://www.ableton.com/forum/viewtopic. ... highlight=

farmpad is great. The latest update gives added scenes, I'll have that step sequencer doing four bars very very soon.

I would love to see what you add to the step sequencer, mine is fresh!

The latest farmpad update also adds remote input to the pK, so the stepsequencer loads with its previous state now!

The config is easy once you get used to it. be sure to comment each area in the config file to allow for fast searching.

check out the new farmpad update, it has remote out now, so you get proper feedback,

but with the config files you can set up farmpad to do anything you want. my config file is about 2,000 lines, but its really easy to set up, most of it was copy/paste and then a few edits.

with the user remote script in ableton you could get drumrack support on a scene

its endless

I have a whole new live now i can't believe it. I'm the most inspired by live now then ever, and i'v been on live since v1.01

ok.. so i could replicate pk squared ability to have 16 midi channels, 1 for each scene? also could i have it that the buttons act as mackie control transport buttons? i'm a bit baffled by the config file stuff, but if i can do everything in pk squared, and then fix all the little issues i've been having (such as lights not retaining lighting when switching scenes), i would be very pleased..

also .. any way to turn off the toggle nature of the lights in some cases? i would like it so scene 1 was toggled lights for mutes for tracks 1-8, then scene 2 was gate mode lights for drum racks, scene 3 was toggle for clip launch etc

is this possible?

nobby,

you can do all this. now with 64 scenes. Do you have farmpad 1.2 yet?

farmpad runs great, i'v had no issues with it, and i think i'm pushing it pretty hard.
I have the step sequencer running 4 bars now, I can link them or run each bar separately.
With custom LED displays ;)

You could set up some buttons to be the same across all the scenes, this would be best for the mackie emulation, then these keys are always the same when switching scenes. Checkout this thread for MCE help. I don't use this functionality.
http://www.ableton.com/forum/viewtopic. ... +emulation

I finished my config file this weekend, for all 64 scenes. It was a little work, but once you get the system it's mostly copy/paste then change the values you need. Start with one scene with the config file. Once you get it to do one scene, the rest is easy.
when testing your config file, save some typing in the terminal by using the up arrow to load farmpad with the file again.

Once you get it imho it's easier then using a graphical interface to configure the unit.

I make comments to easily search through the file once it gets big. Mine is almost 5,000 lines

good to know.. i'm slowly getting my head around it today.. yes i've installed 1.2.1 today and i'm impressed, just not getting my head around the config file stuff yet.

how do i setup the config file for more than one scene? the farmpad -s/ command obviously sets it up like this, and ideally i'd like to use this as a template and edit from there.. How do i setup different scenes with different configs?

i probably only need 8 or so scenes for the minute but 64 is great for future proofing..

at the moment i'd like
scene 1 : lights toggle -1-8 mutes tracks in live, 9-16 solo's tracks, Midi channel 1
scene 2 : drum racks, ideally with x-y keys to scoll up and down through the drum rack : midi channel 2
scene 3 : launch/stop keys for tracks 1-8 : midi channel 3
scene 4 : beat repeat control for tracks 1 - 8 : midi channel 4
etc etc..

I think you only get scenes in groups of 16

what you would do in your config file is assign a scene select button, then you'll have scenes.

sceneselect_1:1

Would make the 'scene' button change scenes for the first group of scenes, to add 16 more scenes you would add another line:

sceneselect_2:19

would make the Hold button switch scenes for scenes 17-32

I'd have to be at home to give a for sure example.

Doc how are your experients going? Whats the maxinum number of scenes available? 64...

before i waste a couple of weeks sussing this out are there any tips that you can share?

Do you know if its possible to use 2 padkontrols

64 total scenes,

I suppose you could use two pK's it would just be a matter of not crossing assignments.

After I had all 64 scenes mapped (1024 midi assignments) it was getting tough to map my other controllers around all of the assignments.

As for tips, the config file is easy, just check out the examples in the folder.

it is good to get to know the easiest way to assign things, so you don't make redundant entries in the files

actually its taken me most of this afternoon and evening to suss it out, which isn't too bad really. once you get your head into the example config files it all starts to make sense..

i've now got a scene with mutes on tracks 1-8 and mackie control, a scene with drum racks and record on/off plus ovr, and then a scene i'm working on with launch keys and mackie control..
