there are far to many of those.
No!! It is really bad to see even a bad Ableton style dj..if ya can't even do it with Live, completely give it up.

my favourite type of dj is the "fuck it" dj

the ones, no matter what format theyre using, you can hear them trying to mix it well and eventually they just think "fuck it" and slide the fade across

that always clears a dancefloor

What kills me is when vinyl dj's assume Serato or Torq mixes the records for you

I'm like, "no, that's ableton, not serato ;) "

Torq can actually sync for you as well

but it's horrible and why would you use traktor or torq when you could use ableton

this digital dj thing is really turning into a chicken and egg conundrum for me

i know alot of you will see the who manual syncing as really important to djing to an audience

but...

if you play out a bad playlist, your gonna be regarded as shit, you could be the best mixer in the world, but if the songs you play arent pleasing the audience then your not gonna go down well

i have seen some amazing djs in my time (mostly small local ones but they could mix very very well) and because of the songs they played, ive seen many dancefloors empty

whereas play an auto synced playlist out that the audience will love and you will go down super well

shame :(

dude, I've seen a couple parties explode with a IPod playlist

you just have to cut the intro's and outro's out - cause the energy of some dance songs dies towards the end and people sort of felt that

but yeah

I've seen serious dance floor action with non mixed music played off an Ipod

but I've seen the party EXPLODE WAY HARDER!!!! with a skilled dj like (Bad boy bill or Dan or Donald) with mixed media (vinyl / cd's / effects) MIXED!!!!!

and I've seen some great ableton sets

it's really all about having a good time!

I don't know about Torq but Traktor has the very useful looping function and coupled with mutilple cue points I think it's a little more "live" than even Live. Just one man's opinion. One man who prefers using CDs anyway...but I'm starting to tilt.

I have torq and they have looping a cue points - 1.5 brings even more (tighter) flexibility to looping and setting up cue points

Torqs pretty dope in mt opinion

I prefer vinyl but non of the super jams I like are on vinyl and my mixer doesn't have all the neat effects torq has

Finally a vinyl DJ says it and a very valid reason to go digital, and you can still use your special encoded vinyl to look legit. There are far fewer tracks being released on vinyl and I think that severely limits your choices. I've been less and less impressed with vinyl DJ's selections of music and have concluded either the good stuff isn't available on vinyl or they've just grown tired of their job after many many years of doing it.

and digital dj opens up a whole new world of making re-edits of the tracks before your set, so making certain bits longer or cutting bits out and adding a bigger beat to them

Anyone now can be a "dj"..
For me a real dj, can mix vinyl, run Live and play dope records and feel and make thir crowd peak and come down.
Ableton I think has made some once good dj's into lazy ones.
