got my genelec 8040 3 days ago.

in the same shop i auditioned also adam P11 (luxurious sisters of A7) and even if they were more bright and defined in the mid-high, genelec got a really better low end. you can really understand what's goin on in subwooferland without having one.. (and the plentiness of trimmers for bass setup should help you reaching a consistent frequency response from your room) not to mention i think these got an excellent stereo imaging, and are not fatiguing for long time listening (spent my whole day listening music yesterday, and at night my ears were still fresh).

i made the jump from 2 years of event tr6, and before 1 year of esi near05.

i can spend a good word about event: the lowend is somewhat fucked, but i f you manage to understand them really well, you can push out really outstanding mixes, bceause i think they tranlate really well. Can't say anything about genelec because i still have to get the right feeling with them, but at a first glance they feel really balanced and clear.

they all sound the same. amplification has no effect on sound. everything sounds the same. use your little speakers that come with your computer. if it sounds good on these, it will sound good everywhere. it's all snake oil.

Happy genelec's 8030A user here... I liked the Adam A7, but they sound a bit bright for me, (it's just my opinion) and I thought they would finish tiring me after a while, since I use them for production and not mastering... so I went for the gens, and they are superb!.
But, mine is a small space, so I'm ok with the 8030a's, I had to trim bass a bit!
In a biger place, well check the 8040's, or consider the 8030 and a sub, maybe... just an idea... (and it could cost you more than that money..)

Good luck, and trust your ears!!!

yeah, always trust someone else's opinion. because you have none of your own. you are incapable of thinking for yourself, so let some highpost counter decide for you, as their opinion must be valid, just look at their post count. if you trust any of them, trust titbag. at least he is honest.

yes but you need a flat freq responce so there is no colouration in the output.

not true actually - you only need to know what the monitors have done to the sound, and compensate yourself using your brain. see ns10s, auratones etc. adams just make life easier - its 2008.

I'm looking to buy some monitors but i was wanting to know which ones are the best. Most i'll be wanting no colouration, so a flat freq response is most nessary.
Please leave your monior type and spec and what you think of them.
Thanks

That can't be avoided. No such thing as flat speakers or flat hearing. As a matter of fact and to fuck you up a little. Why not get your hearing checked, find "your" response and then chose speakers that fill those gaps. Not unlike glasses.

Point is, our perceptions change, rooms change and all kinds of speaker have been monitors for all kinds of music through the ages. Hell, find out what "Off the wall" was mixed on. 40 million records sold should take the cake over flat.

Your room is the clincher, speakers will have less influence.
