Figured it out - initially

Post by Moosh » Thu Feb 28, 2008 5:38 pm

Thank you all!

After I posted this thread and got a bunch of really positive responses and tips, I was able to (easily) get the Remote SL automap feature going.

I'm sold.

I love it. Now I want a 2nd one! Not sure if I would use it live, but in studio use is amazing.

I'm confused why people wouldn't use this live, what is it missing that people are looking for? This is a must buy second tier controller (with the UC33e and BCR2000 being first tier IMO).

I bought a Zero SL about a year ago and used it a lot with Reason and Logic (before owning Ableton). Most recently I had it mapped to traktor scratch pro to attempt to toss FX and loops in and out. It wasn't bad, but there was a bit of an awkwardness with TS PRo.

I got Live with my Zero 8, which arrived 2 weeks after Maschine, so I've only used Live in conjunction with the Maschine controller thus far.

My Zero SL is one of the neglected devices at the moment.

Am I really missing out on something cool here? I've NEVER plugged it in with LIve even installed on a machine. I just assumed the Maschine controller would be great bc of scenes and clips.

I guess the real question: since i only have 2 USB ports on my macbook, can I battery power and midi-in the Zero SL to either the back of the Maschine controller OR the back of the Kore controller and still use the automap features while using my Maschine controller for scene/clip/transport functions?

THAT would be something special. Then I just have to figure out how to assign knobs crazy like Moldover and life is gooooood :)

I had the Bitstream 3x for about a week. Limited edition case and all. The documentation was so crappy I returned it and got the zero really on my salesperson's advice, which is something I typically would not do. Neither is the same as building a controller yourself or finding something that's "just right", and I do miss the sequencing capabilities of the Bitstream (more power to you if you can actually figure out how to do anything on it.) but I don't regret my decision.

Why not just get a USB hub?
