we can make proper Live packs. Live packs are just for data, they're not meant to carry a Live set.

they can be installed into the library.

I suggest you try a feature before saying it's broken.

hm .. there should be something i didnt catch

or we mean a different thing ...
I know is about data.
I can make a live pack but if i send it to someone he must follow a different installation progress than the one click install

extract to a folder / go through Live library to that folder / right click manage / extract

anyway ill try to read the manual AGAIN!

i am not sure... i never tried or had the need to create a live pack, but i received about a week ago a live pack containing a remix and the whole 'live set' so it is possible for a live pack to contain a live set. or the guy did voodoo...???

Live packs are way more trouble then they are worth.

why can't people just drop the project files? or just the rack file?

especially when its for one measly rack...

interesting info. maybe the guy that sent me a .alp did it differently.

it'd be great if an Abe could chime on this topic. I might try it later. the problem with testing it at home is that the info is already on your computer, so you can fool yourself into thinking it's working.

im always put off by downloading monosylabiks stuff because of how messy things get when you install,

it creates like 5 folders and subfolders and then the zip and the live pack, with the project

all of that for one rack ffs

from togeo studios (who offer some nice free packs)

http://togeostudios.com/forum/thread-to ... ck-support

Live packs from Abletons own site, Puremagnetik and some other third party sites do indeed double-click and install directly into the Live library ready to go. Not to question Abletons motives for not allowing all Live packs to install directly, but we wouldnt be having so much trouble if there were only one type of install. Anyway....

i've made several live packs for other peeps without a problem.

collect all and save first for safety

File:- Manage files

Manage project- Create Live pack

Tone i sent the same alp to you AND UkRuss, and i DIDN"T have to send him the seperate .alp. what's up with that?

i feel like i've opened other .alp's from users and they had .als's in em.

People use the live pack because the compression algo is good ("lossless etc etc") and official. But yeah it's pretty lame in several directions.

the manual explains this: Note:
Factory Live Packs (those provided by Ableton) will automatically be installed in the Live
Library.

but that doesn't include endorsed 3rd party packs OR user made packs....

...DENNIS!!!!!!!

Add soniccouture to that list too...

I really wish they'd make the process easier too for installing live packs form other users. Creating them is very easy, but I'd like them to work just like the official ones. Definitely on the wishlist!

i know it's been 13 years since the last post but maybe someone found a way to create a custom pack like those downloaded from around the web?

To do this you would need a Pack Builder contract with Ableton, they last issued them with Live 8.

So for now the previously quoted manage files route is the only way you can go.
