I am not suprised that the quality (in multiple sense of the word) of listener comments from youtube did not meet your expectations. As for kvraudio people being a bunch of people obsessed with programming detail and not on musical content... well, duh.
You might try posting a link over at
www.em411.com --while that site isn't without trolls and people more interested in technique than content... it is an electronic musician-oriented site.
Still, maybe you should preface this with "I am looking for comments on the technique or the style, I am not so interested in the sounds and mastering process at the moment, thanks" or something to that effect.

Heres my take,,,
I watched the vid and was quite impressed,, but my point of view was based on what you where doing with the lemur and how you where doing it,, i think that was the spirit of the posting in the first place. From that perspective i could give two shits about the music or the production quality of that music.
The other issue is how people feel they have to critique every single time.
I personally have no problem with that as it can quite often be a source of new learning,, like some one else said, you take what you want and you leave the rest.
The problem in this regard starts for me when the critique becomes inane and pointless.
I think this might have been what prompted the original post, and i agree with him . Why critique the bass or kick sound,, first of all its on Youtube for fucks sake,, how can any one make any kind of informed critique of any sound through that medium?
And secondly,, it was a video about the Lemur!!!,, if it where a about the kick then surly the lemur wouldn't have been in the vid to begin with?
I think there are some people who post this kind of idiocy in the hope that some one else will agree with them and so then give them some kind of affirmation that they know a little more than the person they are critiquing,,
That would work in the right kind of environment,, but Youtube??? KvR???
Fuckem,,,
Keep doing what your doing and most of these fools will keep on dreaming about what they might be able to do but most likely won't put up the goods to proove it and so will get by by alluding to some talent by highlighting trivial and unimportant aspects of some one else's work,,

i see what you mean.
but if people complain about a kick drum it means that they don't feel the music. it means there's something else that is wrong.
a minute ago someone asked feedback about a track. it wasn't good and it didn't touch me at all. so my comment was "i don't like the drum sound". i also could say that the track was shite. but changing the drum sound would be a good start so that's what i suggested.
I think this is right on the money. If there's a kick drum that sounds crap, or some major clashes frequency wise between the bass and the vocal or something, it makes it really hard to feel the music. All the music that ends up pressed onto CD's or makes it onto the radio has a certain level of production that aleviates these cerebral worries and allows you to listen to the music instead. Even people who don't know music production will still be thrown by a shoddily produced track and won't want to listen to it.
Another point is, alot of the time the production of a track is as much a part of the feel as the track itself. If Beethoven's 9th was recorded in a concrete room with massive amounts of reverb so you couldn't hear the actual music too well, then you're not going to feel the music. Your first grievance will be "it sounds all washed out, I don't like the reverb" before you even get to the feel of the piece itself. However, if it's recorded in some ridiculously expensive concert hall that's designed for this sort of music, then it aids the feel of the track immensely and people can enjoy it.

Of course. But you wouldn't go to the club listen to the show and shout "Your e-string has a nasty buzz to it." But in the anonymity of the web you can do that. Masked as "honesty". But what is gained?
No, I wouldn't, but it's happened to me, plus I haven't seen your vid. Anyway, there's nothing you can do. Ya know, opinion are like assholes and such.
Just think of it as graffiti and youtube as a billboard. Besides, "They" are never the problem.
My original comment is simply about never expecting generosity, or anything for that matter.

if you talked about the typical you tube responses I would have agreed with you but come on this
"Don't know if you want crits but I think the first kick drum sound needs work. Nice sequencer. When the second part comes in, it's pretty dope. Might even start it earlier."
really doesnt ever come close in my opinion to the garbage that gets posted on a hourly basis. I can understand kind of not wanting anyone to critique you but thats generally what goes on at youtube and its what I would expect to happen if I posted a video. whats the deal?

when i let people hear my music i always tell them "its just a demo"
usually when i say this they will listen to the music rather than the engineering.
i feel that most people now days cant hear a good song without high gloss production.
back before computers people used to get sighned with just a 4 track cassette demo recorded in there garage, now for anyone to even listen to a whole track it must be overly produced and ready to be sold.

Demo, well thats right. Put demo in the youtube title! done. Now everybody can just stfu.
If they've got some shit to say, one can say; are you a fuckin idiot, it's a demo.
Or "test" which really crushes the art aspect.
