yeh - but the MD encoders have that duel sensitivity thing which on its own makes them way quicker and yet more precise than the usual encoders.

Indeed, that's one downside of the BCR2000, it takes more than one turn to get the full range of control (at least it did when owned one, maybe this has been fixed).
My Killamix mini has detented endless knobs, but the detents are SOOO fine and smooth that they don't bug me like the SL's do. Acceleration curves too, turn faster and values transmit faster, which is nice.

I think that's only the case if you have the encoders in relative mode. In absolute mode you're done in one turn.
Also the upcoming Novation Nocturn has endless encoders but I'm not sure if they're detented (I hope not).

TBH - I dont see why the damn things rnt calibrated to turn full scale through 270degrees like pots - we all known allmost instictively how far to turn a pot - even without hitting an endstop.

It is more natural that way, yeah. You can get the full resolution without having to grab the knob multiple times.

by editing the bcr sysex you can program different resolutions for the knobs dependoing n the speed at which you turn the knobs -> acceleration

It's easier to dial in a specific value if it's a multi-turn. 10-turn pots are used for the same thing.

The solution for the BCR is
really to edit the sysex file. I have spend hours and hours with this problem, because I want the feeling from a "normal" knob.
I don't think acceleration is the way to go. The problem is that a full turn from a BCR encoder is only 96 steps and not ~127 like from a simple knob.
I found out that you can change that by sysex to something like 136 (a full turn from a knob is not 360° ...) to emulate the feeling from a knob. The "real" hardware resolution is still 96 steps, so the BCR has to interpolate some values - what is not a real problem to me since you could smooth that out with lives midi-settings (there is one..) and for many parameters the slightly decreased resolution is not a problem.
And keep in mind that you could edit this behaviour for every BCR encoder individually, for "performance" orientated encoders you could use the knob-like setting and for smooth filters you can use a higher resolution...
Please ask if something is unclear. And sorry for my brief style, but I have to catch a train

Unless I'm misunderstanding the question...

Just came back from the Musik Messe and the Nocturn has not detented encoders. The guy on the booth said they should finally be available in about two weeks. I'm waiting...

Any word if it supports a HUI/Mackie Universal mode? First news I heard about automap universal 2.0 said so. And if so, I'm sold.

The speed dial is detented though, isn't it? Which would make it slightly less speedy, in my mind.

The endless ones on the Alesis Micron ain't detented, feels nice, especially with their rubbery grip feeling.
