I'd love to be able to isolate a sound (a drum, maybe) and have effects only effect that sound...
Thats exactly what it is already.

Is this Live7 only?

I've only tested it with Live 7.. It's all Audio racks, EQ8, & utilities. I would think it would work with 6.

Many thanks for this. Looking forward to trying it out.

And you're right, the multiband attempts before this were always too phasey and colored.

Ok just made it even easier to use.
I broke out the outputs to show-up on individual audio tracks. Download the Setup Example to check it out.

Live 6 version of something similar here: http://www.ableton.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=62590

Solo each band with audio playing to get the gist of it.

NOTE: Is not transparent in Live 7 as is. But, you can drag it into 7, follow the layout and recreate it and you should be good. Something in the way it updates the rack version. They look the same but don't create identical output - but that's another kettle of fish.

Also, you may want to swap out EQ8 for EQ3 on 48db/8ve filter setting. Much better filtering and still transparent. Of course, the 'color' of EQ3 doesn't come into play because of the cancellation by inversion.

Cheers.

If someone wants to do this outside of Live or build it yourself here you go.
Build this with any DAW mixer & lowpass filters

I follow the idea, but the racks have me a bit puzzled. If I just want to use it as a 2 band divider, must I keep all the components and just lower/raise the cutoff of the low-mids or mi-highs respectively, or can I put my effects at the end of the two chains (rather than at the end of the sub-chains, where it says 'insert here')? I'm not sure if that messes up the phase voodoo. I'm not even sure how to phrase the question actually.

I uploaded a 2 band version for you. Download Presets
& yes you would have to delete everything after the 1st divide to make the 4 band a 2 band.

this is great man, just checking it out now. got Neil Young on the TV piped through this preset. Neil sounds like Floyd circa Final Cut. I have a mix of flange, chorus and delays scattered throughout. great textures.

click through the rack, find the empty spaces to drop effects, drop, relax and enjoy.
