I had similar stuff with my girlfriends Macbook
it actually wouldnt boot up at all - I had to boot with the CD then disk repair then it booted up and Airport had gone completely from the system - system profiler said "no information"
rang Apple support, he said to try safe mode then boot from CD and do system profiler - still not there - he freaked and said ti was very weird and probably hardware(!)
there was a firmware update with the update which I thought was the only possible cause if it couldnt even be seen off the CD and the only option to remove it was a CD you burn to revert the Firmware to factory, but it said "this will only work if your firmware update was incomplete" but I tried it anyway, it didn't actually seem to go through it but when I rebooted Airport was back and it still said the firmware was the new version!!!!
I learned from this - if it aint broke dont fix it
i was actually trying it because I wanted to get the Wiimote working on it, which turned out to be a different problem

80 said the reverting-to-old-airport thing didnt work for him, but thats not essential to stop the spikes. just turning off airport will work just as well.

That's a real bummer guys. They did something to 10.5.2 as well, I get crackles in higher cpu projects that were not having this in 10.5.1, so weird. As soon as I turn off airport, problem solved.

You know, it takes about 3 seconds to turn off airport...

Yes but many people like having web access with music going.
It's so weird how it affects so many people but not others.
I did all the updates, and am not getting the crackles.

I don't get crackles until I get around 50% CPU in Live, then I start getting small dropouts. I rarely get this high for most of my work though, so for me, it's really not a big deal.

Is it just MBPs that are affected? I'm not seeing this on my iMac.

Wow - I thought I was the only one. Am I crazy or did Safari also start occasionally hanging on page requests after this update as well???
I installed a few days ago and actually posted on some other forums that I hear crackling in Logic, Massive, etc. etc.
I'm on 10.4.11 as well.

Terrific -- I'm about to leave for a week out of the country, just tried this and destroyed my Airport functionality entirely. Now it says that a whole series of files were installed improperly.
Anyone know how to reinstall Airport software, extensions and drivers?
