Crisis is a bold word. I've been hoping for it since, well forever... and I gig all the time. I just work around it and keep wishing... there must be some serious obstacles, because it is such an obviously perfect thing to have in a performance situation.forge wrote:.....really, really, hope they solve the session automation CRISIS for Live 8
lmao!forge wrote:the fact that it isnt therelogic_user99 wrote:What is this 'session automation crisis' of which you speak, Forge?
But yeah, same here... I want to be able to grab anything on Live's GUI and play with it... mutes... loop lengths... even playing/stopping/etc of clips... and to be able to capture whatever I'm doing and keep it as a riff... and be repeating it instantly... or being able to come back to it later
that might be a bit heavy, so for now just at least give us a chance to capture things that are already midi assignable and embed them within a clip
I like strongly emotive language, it amuses me.bland_handl wrote:Crisis is a bold word. I've been hoping for it since, well forever... and I gig all the time. I've been going on about it a lot, but you could probably do what you're saying here with Glove PIE - link in my sig

agreed, however i'm not holding my breath.b0unce wrote:bingo.thefool wrote:session automation!mosca wrote:if i want them, i'll buy cubase.
Thats my number 2.
seriously, session automation has to be a priority for live. If curves are more important than you should buy cubase, not the other way around IMO.
Three things I most want...
1) Groove Quantisation
2) Auto-crossfades / overlapping clips in Arrangement
3) New production quality timestretch warp option (e.g. Radius, Elastique Pro)
Having said that, I voted for the most likely being the Vocoder

As were are talking about 'most likely' rather than 'most requested' then...
Something completely random non of us ever thought of, implemented in some obscure way that only works with ableton plugins and/or only does half the job, because that how the porgrammer who came up with it uses it.
Now if were talking requested...
Then deja vu - take 3:
- grouping/hiding tracks (ie like drum racks)
- automation params for extenal instrument and external effect plugins etc - ie so that CCs, NRPNs, and parameterized sysex (particularly roland style) can be directly driven from automation parameters
- Drum racks to well well with guru, rms etc, including support for independent output routings etc
- not requiring bizarre hacks to use non-ableton midi plugins (for eg the one that actually does do the automation -> CC mappings that external instruments dont provide for some wierd reason, but doesnt seem to work in Live - grrrr!) would be nice too
- rather than drawing curves, lets have non-linear (constant power type) response curve as per the crossfader so that crossing two straight lines on two automation will produce a useful approximation of a constant power crossfade - most useful for macro knobs too.
- A pure mixer+meters view please - gets kind of tedious to keep having to resive the mixer depending on when I want to get at clips or mixer detail when mostly working in arrange - perhaps ability to save and switch between different view configs for the session view. (Did I say hiding tracks tooo?)
- dual screen support please - most usefull session + arrrange view windows both open in different screens. (just though I wouldmetionn hiding tracks again
)
And please... update the timestrecth algorythm if the pro/newer etc one are better. I spend *way* more time in a remix getting rid of stretch artifacts than I do on arranging/recording new bits and mixing.
And yes - I think most likely will probably be the vocoder - I allready have 4 f****** vocoders - I dont need another one!!!

Nothing to see here - move along!
+1 on all those.headquest wrote:Three things I most want...

I'd like to see follow actions taken further, possibly into some form of script based thing (cycling 74?) I'd definitely like to be surprised by something innovative that nobody's foreseen yet.

word is that it touches on a very fundamental way Live works, so adding this feature will take a rewrite of some very core architecture issues in Live. I don't know where that post is, came out of Abe HQ. I want it!!doc holiday wrote:agreed, however i'm not holding my breath.b0unce wrote:bingo.thefool wrote: session automation!

it's been over a year since they advertised something with Cycling 74. maybe Ableton will have two products for sale soon? like a Reaktor type thing but made by C74 for Live.
if the past is any lesson, even numbered releases are the better of the breed.
- rewrite some of the warp modes, L7 was a 'step up' in sound quality, at least on paper, remember the video of Gerhard emphasizing the focus on the audio engine.
- automation curves
- no edit button, they have sick senses of humor at Ableton, ever see their forum? fucking nightmare drunken bonobo knife fight.

I want a drunken Bonobo knife fight mode.
Curvy Bonobos too.
and I want lots of things that have been dreamed up specifically by the marketing department to make it more "same-y". Where the thing it is designed to be the same as is everything.
I want it more feature packed and simpler
I want to pay a whole lot of cash to learn a proprietary scripting language that doesn't work so hot on my machine.
I want a new logo that is both 'fresh', 'fierce' and cutting edge, but also 'established' and 'vintage'. It must also remind me of one day I had when I was 12 years old.
I want the voiceover guy to have a sidekick who chips in in German so we can all learn how to say "full body knob turn" in at least one other language.
The German sidekick guy has to be "stern"
I want an Ableton themed bald wig and beard combo in the box
I want all my demands met in a precise order, otherwise the damn whole thing is a failure.
I have further irrational demands available on request
