one of my classic and almost always used racks, is a bell shaped auto effect followed by a full wet ping-pong and reverb (wet too, diffused, with a long decay). i call it paddizer 
because it instantly generates a pad from everything you throw in it. well.. mostly mid frequency stuff.
you can play with the bell cutoff to generate the desired note.

and lately gate > redux is a great thing for a return track or a dedicated fx audio track. . .
