who cares if he did or didn't.

it's good music. not great music. not mind blowing music. not cutting edge holy shit how did he do this music. just GOOD music. I know we hardly ever get to hear good music anymore these days so it can be shocking. but get over it. If it was made by splicing together tape, it's still just good music.

i have been playing this possible scenario in my mind.. it may be possible with the mix function and multiple waveforms and if he really did do it like this fucking mad props to him .. thats one hardcore technique

thing is - if you just think about it now in 2008 it doesnt make much sense, but if you sit on a work laptop in 2001 with a P2 266 in it and load some dodgy cracks of Sound forge 4 and acid 2 on it and fuck around with some samples and play with some destructive fx on them and make up some new ones and you are the sort who's just into the tunes and dont know much about computers and cant be fucked keeping up with the millions of changes in those 7 years then end up getting good at using sound forge over those 7 years you could do it

in fact I often think about whether if I'd just settled on my setup in 1998 and stopped getting sucked into the upgrade cycle whether I wouldn't have come up with some mad shit

since about 2002 I seem to have spent more time fucking with the technology than actually making music by a ratio of about 80/20

actually no I disagree - if he really did do it with just SF then it's way more inspiring because it means he was driven

you could do what he did with just SF but to do so is a way harder way to do it in 2008 - so it means he was just totally focused on the music and the tools were irrelevant

Last thing I loved was the Pole remix by Mike Huckaby on Scape

he's not saying he didn't use other programs to genereate/make sounds. His 'claim to fame' if you wanna call it that is that he arranges/sequences and the final output comes from sound forge.
Anyway, I liked the fishbone comment, because I had been there, knew what he was talking about, spending hours staring at those waveforms while editing down sounds but never thought to point it out or capitalize on it. Simple + clever of him to point out.

I actually don't listen to much modern music. this has it's pro's and it's cons.
I too am guilty of spending way too much time messing about with the latest gizzmos and gadgets, plugs and what not. That's how i've always done it though. I just keep doing what i'm doing and i've developed enough skill over the years to be able to create some really focused work.
Anyway, a question was just raised about anything being great of late.
I just heard Bedlam in Goliath by The Mars Volta, and it's totally floored me.
I'd never even heard of them (see above). That album has clean split my brain in two.

I used to work with Mars Volta Druumer/songwriter, he was kind of a prick, so I have a bias, I can't listend them without hearing a prick

I've mentioned this before on other posts about Burial on this forum, and I can tell you he writes all his tracks simply using Soundforge. My mate masters his tracks, and said he has to pick bits apart sometimes to get back to isolated sounds that need tweaking, but he did tell me he doesn't touch much of it at all other than balancing levels. Actually, apparently his PC is so shit, it struggles to even turn on, so it's quite difficult to get finished material off it and into the studio.

i think the mars volta drummer is astonishly good.

Sure as hell I don't buy into the media hype around his release but it is a release I have bought and enjoy from time to time.

Now you cunts question every production technique he use's, did you ever think for one second that he is into the VIBE? and heavily propelled by cunts like you guys scribing the shit like you post here?
