So if i'm reading this right, you suggest buying from a regular computer shop for example rather than from apple directly?
Intersting.. Are there any percs to buying irectly from Apple ie applestore.com or whatever?

My main advice is whichever machine you get, make sure you buy the Apple Protection Plan - once it's outta warranty it will cost a bomb to repair!!

timur,

the guy is an apple tech, he knows what hes talking about...

have u ever saw a non waranty apple repair receipt ?
it is frightening...

just for laughs and out of memory i can remember that a screen replacement for a 20 " g5 imac or a logic board for a powermac g5 is like 800 €,
from what i´ve seen from the mb, mbp internals, pretty much any problem it may have will require a new logic board, even a faulty fw port...

so,
you are quite ok if u plan to sell any apple mahine u own bfr it turns out one yr old
i try to do it regularly,
as it seemed the perfect timing as our warranty used to be 2 yrs so i could sell a machine that still had one yr left of warranty,

now they changed it to 1 yr (#$%&!!#) and i must say i am really waiting for them to have apple care available here....

btw: does anyone know if u need to aqquire the apple care for a machine when you buy it ?
is it possible to buy a machine with the standard warranty and then one year later get the aplecare for it ?

I don't think there are any percs in buying not from Apple directly, it's the same product, but that was not what I meant. I meant that manufacturers of other computers offer these warranties at far lower prices.

IIRC from what I read on the store.apple.com u can opt in at any time in the first year.
Worth checking tho if u need to be sure.
