drum racks are great... i have a drum rack i use live with maybe 600 sounds programmed into it.
i've found for some reason velocity seems to not be working... i assume the simpler instances have a default velocity setting?
if so, how would you change it globally when the samples are all already in the drum rack? would love to have my full 127 levels of velocity back.

I'll chime in and say that while I think the Drum Rack's functionality is fantastic, I still prefer Impulse over Simpler by far. Sampler is better, but sometimes even too much. Impulse is just right for drum samples. I think they should make a one-pad "mini Impulse" specifically for the Drum Racks, based on Simpler but drum-specific.

Having both is great. One reason I still use impulse is that for the most part the MANY drum patches are mapped to the same midi note. Example- the kick and closed high-hat are always on the same pad. Therefore, you can cerate a beat with one impulse kit then simply switch to another impulse kit and still get the same rythmic result but with different sounds. I've gotten some prett interesting results by creating a pattern then swapping kits.numerotre wrote:What do you use impulse for, in ableton 7?
cuz i cannot find a good reason to use it over drum racks...[/url]

i like impulse b/c i mapped my Korg Electribe sampler right to it...it has many of the same features as my hardware...drum racks seem very cool but also very confusing......and i can do the same thing, individually map single hits to single channels, and send all or 1 to a return track.

i like to build drumracks with impulses in it. so i have one impulse for kicks, one for snares etc. and map micros on the DR, to midi-pitch in front of the impulse, to choose the one kick i want. if i want another kick from this selection to be available, i just duplicate its impulse to another DR cell.
impulse is still great to hold the drum sounds in it. its much snappier to throw the sounds in it and have all the right tweaks ready out of the box.

When you start to build up a new drum rack, assign transpose from the first simpler slot to a makro. Now copy paste the simpler to the other slots, and just drop new samples into them. The Crane wrote:Being able to globally transpose a whole impulse kit up and down is a nice effect which is more hassle to do in drum racks
The makro will now controll all the simplers transpose.
