My opinion - evaluate what you need and the factual info presented in this and the other hundreds of Mac vs PC threads (avoiding the useless emotional drivel and hating by those with insecurities or jealousy) and make an informed decision.

I still say Mac. OSX and XP on one machine. Best of both worlds.

i'd say get a Mac if you're a pretentious, trendy, bourgeois, hipster, PC user hating douchebag who knows nothing about computers

i'd say get a PC if you're a pretentious, nerdy, bourgeois, 4-chan loving, Mac user hating douchebag who thinks he knows more about computers than anyone else.

in the end, all computer users are pretentious, bourgeois, hater douchebags

I considered a mac for a long time, and then came to realize that my favorite-can't-live-without synths were all PC only, so that decision is done. My only drawback is that I have no real upgrade path, since Vista sucks.

thats a big one, i had to get parallels on my mac just to ween me off of those synths (i miss you tweakbench!! I MISS YOU SO FUCKING MUCH!!!).

i dont know if said weening was ever truly successful...

also, regarding audio card, either mac or pc, get yourself a motu ultralite.

^ I dunno about the sound card...I still maintain that firewire on PCs is shoddy...I'd get a USB2.0 soundcard for PCs and a firewire soundcard for a mac. I'm sure for a lot of you it's working fine, but my experience with firewire on PCs leaves me concerned about live performances and what not.

ditch vista and youve got a sweet buy!

just to respond to a couple of points upthread. XP is being wound down by MS, but its going to be a viable music platform for at least another 3 years, as long as manufacturers keep making drivers for audio interfaces. I dont see any major shift in Windows until they bring out a properly supported consumer aimed 64 bit version. Vista is still giving about a %20 performance hit for the same hardware compared to XP. It sure looks purty, but if your aim is the best possible performance, then xp is your friend. (for 32 bit audio at least)

Be careful! that's what I thought, but it's the worst of both worlds, in my Macbook.

1. Jaguar is'nt stable. It needs an extra buffer (64 samples), and my Core duo performs very badly with Mac software (speed stepping, glitches, drops, latency...). Logic stops... it's just a little better than my very bad Titanium.
2Parallel is useless in audio situation (latency...)
3 Bootcamp isn't as fine as a real good PC. Audio drivers are so bad (for the internal realtek card), firewire isn't recomended...
There is a problem with firewire rme card and internal agere firewire...

The good side of mac:
No virus, no need to use ghost or acronis to keep a image of your computer
the possibility to use Metric Halo cards and Apogee duet or Ensemble
The ability to use an external usb or firewire OS disk to boot your mac, or other macs (that's for me the best thing)

Just one advice: check the computer you'll buy with your soundcard, PC or Mac. There are so many incompatibility problems.
