I'm gonna bust a fucking nut.
Hey I had similar issue updating the firmware, Vyzex wouldn't work so I used another Sysex librarian to get the firmware across .
My machine had issues with sync so I erased the firmware even though it was shipped up to date. I re installed it using SysexLibrarian for mac and now it works flawlessly.

I got the firmware installed in the end. Thankfully that's something that only has to be done once.
I'm still having major problems with the MIDI-THRU with Live.
The midi thru on the MPD works with my standalone synths, such as Minimonsta, but not with Live. I think it might be the way Live handles pad controllers.

Have you followed the normal steps i.e. hold down (<<, Stop, Rec) while starting up etc.

This just happened to me too. Tried to upgrade the firmware by following the directions in the vysex manual and it just won't work. My mpd's screen just hangs with no visual feedback.
Fucking bullshit that I have to deal with this and wait for akai tech support to get back to me when I have a gig tomorow night that I would've been using this at.

On a Mac Book Pro always plug the MPD into the left hand USB port it works better. For firmware upgrade I used Sysex Librarian instead of Vyzex and it worked fine.

Hey everyone,
Sorry for the necro-bump, but this is the origional reason I sold this thing back in 2008...
I'm really in need of one again (my mpc2500 is getting a little long in the tooth) and am wondering if they've fixed this problem.
Anyone?

the firmware was updated about a year ago. you can download it from the AkaiPro site. follow the instructions in the manual to update, and then all global settings will be saved.
