iMac Buying suggestion

iMac has just been updated recently, I doubt you'll see an update:

Yeah, I see.
I've been to the store today and they're still offering previous gen iMac (not Penryn) at at a reduced price. Given the lower RAM & Bus Speed, do you think they're still good to buy? I've heard of iMacs w/o TI FW chipset, is this so bad? my audio card has little power specs (see signature)

Have you checked out the refurbished models on apple's site?

I'm still using a G4, but I just ordered a Penryn MBP, I actually found it refurbished.. I should have that sucker tomorrow.

I'm about to go from a PowerBook G4 to an Intel machine. I'd be interested in your experience when you get your new MBP. If you find the time, can you post some info about the change?

BTW what model is your G4?

I'll post in the performance test thread.
I have a 12" powerbook 1.0 GHz, and a dual 1.8 G4 (3rd party cpu)
Both with 1.5 MB RAM

The 1.8 is barely usable. I have to do a lot of freeze/flatten/bounce just to use it.

On the new iMac's, if you want great viewing angles and a much better viewing experience, go with the 24" because they have S-IPS panels in them. The 20" LCD's (TN panels, the same type as the newer 13" MacBook's) are notorious for terrible viewing angles and an overall low quality bad viewing experience. I sent a Santa Rosa based MacBook back for a refund due to the horrible LCD in it, and went with the MBP instead. The 20" iMac LCD issue is also well known.

That's not important to everyone, but it's #1 in my decisions. If the screen is low quality, it makes the overall feeling of a system feel "cheap".

I have the most recent iMac the one only sold online (at leas when I got it a week ago) and am VERY happy with it. Runs Ableton like a charm. Just don't use the center USB port for your soundcard. Use the left or right one.

Can you pls post your specs? I got a FW interface, no problems I suppose..
