that's what consumers allowed and decided it to become by buying low quality stuff.
as in so many other areas.
i can't stand any more product reviews that contain even less information than the press release of a new product.
people really should start voting by spending their hard earned money more clever.
but what am i babbling, they even refuse to show responsibility when voting for presidents.

in general you're hitting the nail on the head.

besides judging a tech magazine in terms of technical competence and ability to do proper research for articles should really have nothing to do with "opinions" at all.

wild guess, but i think your brother and me are not the only ones disappointed with their qualtiy (as well with a lot of other media, just to be fair).

I concur with the applause for the ZebraCM. I thought that was worth the price of the mag.

The CM Suite is unbelievable and samplefreak is way off.

Since the last few additions to the Suite, i've actually started recommending people starting out to use that pack and a DAW of their choice. Most types of synthesis, effects and even modular enviroments are covered. Sure, the quality isn't top-notch, but for people starting there's no other way to be able to experiment with all the different techniques for free. Like, starting out i read alot about stuff i couldn't get my hands on until a few years, but these days with CMSuite, its only a click away. You're learning the basics and you can later replace the indivudual plugins with other, more costly, solutions, hardware or software.

Great stuff, a bit unbelievable actually.

And while the magazines "news" are pretty much useless due to the internet, some articles/tutorials are just undeniably awesome and their interviews can also be quite revealing. I also like the "guide to" genre guides as they can definently kickstart you into gear.

It's not cheap, but it's a nice change from pretentious forum "guru"'s and their "knowledge".

it's not bad. i've been subscribed for two years but i don't think i'll be renewing my subscription as after 24 issues you start to see the same old stuff being recycled.... there's only so many times i need to read what a compressor does before i get the point.

however i will be spending some time going back through those issues and working through the tutorials and techniques which i think are quite good and not just for beginners.

i'll still pick up a copy now and then just to see if there's anything new. obviously the reviews are always new but i find them the least interesting bit as i already have enough gear. to CM's credit, they have thinned down the reviews section and made more room for technique & tutorials.

I have been reading CM for the last 3 years or so. I like the format, interviews and reviews. Sure, it's not perfect, but neither is my music. I take what I can from it. The other mags available are mostly crap for me.

well, eveyone has the right to their opinion. The main purpose of a magazine is to sell advertisement pages. That is how they make money. the magazies carry content similar to what the people buying ads on their pages sell. the content of the magazine and products it advertises are usually directly tied directly into this.

sales and marketing

I read both Computer Music and Future Music, and prefer the latter. It doesn't do as much as CM in terms of tutorials, but I much prefer their DVD features. The D.Ramirez, Steve Angello and (very recently) Matti Schwartz videos have been very informative to this newbie.

My one huge gripe about CM is the Q&A section. Half of it is "I have X pounds to spend - recommend me some equipment". Do people not research anything anymore?

The only thing I have to add is that I think that the recent redesign of the magazine has made it less readable.
