This is also a bit similar to nesting actual projects: what is there was a clip that you could double click and a whole new project would open, all the plugins etc etc. I don't know, this would take a whole lotta cpu, so maybe folder clips would be a good compromise between "Project clips" and "Folder tracks".

+1 for general idea

Not sure about the exact details. Need to make sure it's not too complicated to use.

This folder track holding folder clips, I don't quite get. Are you saying you can only have folder clips in folder tracks and folder tracks can only hold folder clips?

I'd be happy to have folder or group tracks pretty much as everyone else is always requesting. ie you expand it out to show the separate audio, midi and return tracks routed as you like. This should include a master clip for launching the group and envelopes for control of top level parameters.

If you combine this with the arrangment/meta/nested/whatever clips created on a track by track basis, you should have all the flexibilty you are asking for without it getting too messy.

Let me know if I'm missing something.

that's it exactly, you are not missing it :)

folder tracks could handle folder (or meta) clips, or they could just be used as the group/routing tracks many people are waiting for.

the folder clips need to be placed in that folder tracks, due to midi/audio tracks can't handle multi-track.

it won't get complicated to use at all! have you tried to bring different parts of different arrangements together without previous audio-export?
that's what i call complicated...;-)

Ah, right. You have my full support then.

For a minute there, I thought you were suggesting something a lot more complicated than that.

Let's be having it.

This request is actually pretty popular. It seems to have popped up a few times recently. For instance, we were discussing it in the latest bug fix announcement. Although I did feel a bit guilty about spamming the thread.

i do have a good feeling.. :D
that will perfectly fit into abletons update-philosophy.
it would bring the instrument- /drum-rack vision from the last updates up to the arrangement level...:-)
