I can tell you what the collaboration is all about:

They all get together once every 2 months and go on a big team building outing. Sometimes go-karting, sometimes paintball. Afterwards they go for a nice meal and have a chat about what they can do with their software.

Over some tapas a few months ago, Ableton asked Cycling if they had any hot tips for Live 8. Cycling suggested a vocorder, then the next round of drinks showed up and the conversation turned to what club they were all heading to.
agreed. and then they can call it a "business lunch" and write it all off on their taxes, 'cause they made BANK last year.

seriously, wtf is up with announcing this shit over a year ago and not doing a goddamn thing about it? I've never seen a bullshit move like that before. it's not like C74 didn't know the max5 release and subsequent bug fixes wouldn't take them most of '07 and '08.

me? jaded? nah...

I heard that Krispy Kream is collaborating with Larry Flynt to make a chain of topless donut shops.
psych!
thanks.

Yeah I know! I'm just kidding around, god!?

no really I got ableton 10.0 at home!? hahaah ....come on. :D

On the side note too, is that I really don't care as long as things work the way they should, more importantly what I create using the soft / hardware is much more rewarding than what version i'm on when creating it.

You know what I mean?

What would be more inspiring is if I had a whole day or two using one of my favorite band's studio.

Guess it will come in the end of 2008. They released a version every year and I think they will keep that tradition (2008->v8 is cool).
WHY? BECAUSE 7 IS A BLOATED, GLITCHY SQUIRREL. FORK 8
Perhaps v8 will go a completely different way? The C74 collaboration thing... maybe a big part of the audio engine will come from C74? I do agree that I don't need a new version until this one works, but as the Ableton guys released a version every year the speculation is justified in my eyes.

I MISSED THIS GEM. FUNCTIONING SOFTWARE IS WHAT'S COOL. (bleep)
You missed my point. I don't say that _I_ need to have a v8 this year, but maybe the Ableton guys are planning one jsut to follow the scheme.

Maybe the collaboration means that you will be able to create your own instruments with Ableton Lookalike Interfaces in MAX and directly use them in Ableton. Then you could do your vocoder yourself and so much more.
However I agree that there are a lot of other things (128, grouping, ...) that should be done.

Yep - admittedly that concept sounds cool but, imho, there's a definitely a whole bunch of outstanding stuff needing attention before opening any more cans of worms and I hope the Abe's take care of it before moving on.

Except Ableton need the income that a new version generates, simply addressing outstanding stuff doesn't really qualify as a new version or at least not one people are willing to pay for. There has to be a fine balance between the two, but something that is going to generate more income will always win the day.

I expect v8 will open various new cans whilst closing only a few.

I wish speculation threads on the next release wouldn't happen, it just gives the company the idea that they can just release anything they want at any time and that we will all come drooling for a higher number regardless of whether it works or contains features worth upgrading to, like mindless zombies - bigger number = better, gotta have it, gotta have it NOW.

Fix Live 7 first fer chrissakes ! And if we don't get an annual release in September-Dec of 2008 and have to wait a while longer, i say GREAT !
(even though I love the Abes and Live 7 is awesome for me)
