I love Live, but it truly sucks ass when attempting to sync it to an MPC.


I own Digital Performer 5, Sonar 6, Pro Tools Le, and Logic 8, and I can perfectly sync the MPC to any of these DAWS without any time drifts or other issues. Honestly I pretty much only use PT, Logic 8 and Live at home now so Live has pretty much become a huge sampler for my needs.

I don't get why this shit hasn't been fixed yet. Really...I just...don't get it.

is it worth waiting until Live 8? Once i've got a decent soundcard I hope to be able to run Live without too much hassle, so i'll be paying out for a copy.

I have never used MPC's so cannot comment on that (more a samplers delight in the hip hop world in particular, since I play my own music and don't do hip hop I have never had an MPC because they are expensive tools and don't bring anything to my table).

However, Live 7 has been an awesome tool and it has almost entirely replaced Cubase for me (even though the latter has some advantages as all DAWS have areas of strength and weakness). And definately for arranging and tweaking sounds and FX. It is definately suited to electro/electronica because of this but it can do traditional linear chores quite well too, I just recorded an alternative rock album completely using Live 7 Suite.

Live 7 certainly has not been a catastrophic failure at all. Some people have had genuine issues but the vast majority of people are using it productively and the updates have resolved some of the early release glitchiness.

If you can stand to wait for a few months, I'd wait until Live 8 is announced and they do the "free upgrade to Live 8 if you buy Live 7 now" thing. Not that there's any guarantee that they'll do that, but that seems to be the MO over the past 2-3 years that I've been following Live. Then again, if you want it now, then get it now! Kinda like with buying a computer - you can wait forever as things getter better and cheaper, but you've gotta jump in at some point. Where you jump in is up to you, of course.
