right click the automap server, go to "MIDI output port", select some unused MIDI port (typically the "automap midi" port), then go to "MIDI Channels' and open up any of the channels you want to use. Now it has opened up those channels in the automap server and you choose them in the "User" automap group. boom, blank MIDI templates. You can also edit these templates in the automap window like any other plugin. something I like to do is change the step size on the buttons to "0" so that they act like hold buttons instead of toggles...but you can do whatever you want.
