i love my UL, but lately i've found myself needing more inputs than it offers. might be time for an upgrade.
i've liked my MOTU experience so far so maybe an 828 mk3?
if someone makes a decent offer i'd be willing to part with the UL to fund the upgrade.

Hm... what's the issue? I read on a forum somewhere that an "upgrade" caused volume level problems. Should I worry about this?

that's my favorite part.
Your monitors are the last part of the chain, everyone knows they should be switched off first and last, if that makes sense.
I do quiet like the pop to though

everybody knows that.. but everybody knows as well that a soundcard should't pop when switched on/off
i'm curious if the rme cards do this as well.. maybe it's a normal thing

I found myself in the same position. I ended up getting a second UL and a Gator 2U rack bag. I mounted the ULs side by side daisychained and use the second rack space for recording snakes and cords that I leave plugged in. When you uncoil the snakes, there is ample ventilation.
This is a cool highly portable 16 i/o 4 preamp single rack solution at a reasonable price point. It would also be a good plug and play studio interface for outboard gear (if I had any).
No lightpipe tho.

I can say it works fine on 32bit. Make sure you download the latest drivers specifically for vista.
there was a driver upgrade that caused some problems a while back, that might have been what you read about.
I have two ultralites, they sound good, are rugged for live use and are low latency.

I hated my Ultralite too. Whoever designed the Windows drivers is a moron. What sense does it make to make the Main Outs 11 and 12 on the interface? I'll take a dump in my computer if anyone can give a logical reason for that. It was never buggy and it never crashed/effed my system, but eventually the main output thing and the super tiny volume knob started to drive me insane. I now have an M-Audio Profire 2626 and it's made me so happy that I sold the Ultralite.
I don't mean to rain on anyone's parade who is actually have a good experience with the Ultralite. On paper, it's a great interface. I, personally, just did not have the best user experience with it. I hope that those who use it continue to have a good experience with it!

I'd actually agree regarding that. More specifically, they don't seem to shoot for a great "OOTB" experience. The drivers you get on the CD it shipes with likely need updates off their site, you have to register your hdw on the site before you can download, You might need to reboot a few times before it 'clicks'. The user manual is kind of disorganized.
But once you get things going, they keep going-- it is a solid interface.
I hate it

I hate mine too.
Its driving me nuts.
I get digital noise, and the card just stops frequently for no apparent reason. I then have to change the sample rate to get it working again. This happens only on one of my two laptops and all possible solutions offered did not fix the problem i am facing. It works fine on the other laptop though. If it didn't, i would have ditched it ages ago.

Are all of you guys who are having problems on MAc or PC?
Mine is solid as hell on my macbook pro but won't work on My Bootcamp Windows.

mine worked fine too.
the only big WTF was this one time when it glitched out, but we ruled it out as a problem created by a certain popular site's flash audio player. A reboot of both, my MBP and the UL, made the problem disappear. Rock solid from there on in again. But then again, i'm on a Mac
as has been said, MOTU interfaces are kind of notorious for not working that well with PC's.
