The gui is simply horrible on sylenth, I know the gui is not the point in a softsynth but damn, a little bit of esthetic effort could be a good idea.

Arh i think its okay after you get to know it. It becomes your friend and afterall its pretty easy to get around and understand.

Yes...not my cup of tea, its all about taste.
+ genesis sounds thicker (also taste)

i like that sylenth can be very little fat (based on the "damped" kind of fat, representing little highs but much low and mids)

The disguisting GUI can be skinned on OSX with the "show package contents" hack. Something I will be doing in the near future.

I'm almost as much a Sylenth1 fanboy as I am a Live fanboy, so no need to reiterate my love for this synth. I agree with what most have said, that for VA, it's easily the best out there. For other types of non-sine/saw/square standard VA sounds, I'd go with Zebra for sure.

I also agree with Beats, in that Zebra is a bit complex for me. Sometimes, I just want a couple of oscillators, phatten them and stick on an LFO and just get on with it, and for that, Sylenth1 is a dream. It programs as easily as old Roland synths. And now that it's mac-ready, I can't see any other synth beating it for those classic VA sounds.

As for the GUI, I don't disagree that it needs some updating. Lennard emailed me last week to say that a resource editor can hack into the .dll for PCs and let you skin it. Sounds like a challenge, and since I skinned Z3ta, I don't know if I'll try Synlenth, but who knows, maybe when I get bored, I'll give it a shot. The trouble is that every time there's a new update, I'd have to repatch it, so I dunno if I'm gonna bother. Especially when it sounds so so good.

One other comment regarding sounds/patches...v2 that was released last week installs with 2 sets of patches. The second set has patches created by other artists (includng a few by me). Most of those are not tarnce at all. Give it a shot

I don't think there's anything wrong with the GUI at all. In fact I think one of the nicer soft synth GUIs out there, and I've got lots of 'em.

I just bought it today. Ouch, came to 240 dollars. That's the most I've ever spent on a single soft synth. But nothing else compares to how easy it is to dial in a broad range of huge sounds quick. I still love zebra, but it just can't get this phat. The 'fatty' presets in the clowns section of presets are not even remotely close to what you can get out of sylenth1 in seconds.

I'd love to see a few extra features thrown in down the line like FM and ring mod, so I hope this synth has a bright long future. And how the hell did he get such a big sound into such a small cpu footprint I wonder....

^ regarding how he achieved a phat sound in such low CPU usage, there was a great article that I dug up last year, and then I did a Babblefish translation so that I could get the jist of it...

Also, the CPU usage is quite insane...I did a remix (it's on the Lennardigital.com site under the "Listen" tab) where I used 8 instances of Sylenth1, some Vengeance drum samples, and the original vocals, and my e6600 cruised along at 20%...prolly around 10-12% on my now Q6600 CPU. Insane.

He also listens to his customers. I requested a reset preset enable, which has been incorporated in the latest update.
I am finding it great for when you tweak too far away from your original sound that you started with.
You used to have to close down the vst and re open it to get back to where you started.

All updates have been free, and there have been 4 in the last year and a half.

I don't dislike the gui, i've seen worse.( zebra gui sucks balls for me ) It's easy to get around.

I can't seem to get my own preset patch names to change on the gui either.
The sounds change, but not the patch name.
Have emailed Lennard about it. Seems to be a glitch. Anyone else?

i worked out how to change the names of presets tonight...look at the picture below..
you have to click on the little dot in between the number 4 and the preset name then type in your new preset name and press enter then save your preset..hope this helps guys...
