I've seen (and gotten into) some nasty scuffles in my time, but everything was a choice I made at that given time, some choices were poor and I got whupped upside my head but I could take care of myself pretty good and mostly didn't get involved. I could have stayed home and watched TV but teens/early 20's is a time for getting out there and putting yourself about a bit socially. How far you go with trouble is still mostly a personal choice, even in the dodgiest pubs and clubs and areas.

Those days are long past, now I am early to bed with my slippers and mug of ovaltine and don't have the time or energy to act that way - being 'bad' is a night spent with Live ignoring the missus and her endless supply of chickflicks !
No way! Reeperbahn and st.pauli are very safe indeed, beside the hookers and the piss stench in the morning its actually quite nice.
Getting into trouble is a personal choice, sure! When i saw the wankers starting the fight i was half way out of the place. The real bad thing about this story is that all those free raves (we have "some" every year) were really peaceful. Almost no police, very few drug probs (beside the stupid GBL shitters) it was like paradise island on techno!

Wow, how wierd, I live in Portsmouth, a particularly nasty city on the southcoast of the UK, and last Friday I got followed home by a couple of dickheads who I don't think were even drunk or high but they tried to mug me at 3am. I was on my own and did nothing to provoke them but i was pretty drunk either way.

After exchanging a few words they ran at me, so a ran at them and luckily my fist made contact with one of their faces and they fell to floor quite badly before i ran like i have never run in my life! All very wierd in retrospect considering i'm 25, 6"3 and have a 'fashionable' shaved head - not someone people generally start on even though i'm as soft a shite and can't stand violence of any kind.

Must be that time of the season fo sure!

Well done! The best defense is a good offense... especially when combined with a pre-emptive strike...

Damn PLUR!!

If only we didnt welcome the pre-chav era Lager Louts into our select rave communities in the 90's......

Seems all that 'loved-up' acceptance has created a monster.

Should have left them wearing thier pink polo shirts in the sports bar where we found them, they may have even wiped themsleves out over that past 10 years or at least become sterile so they couldnt breed.

Maybe the previous experiences with the Peace Convoys' 'Brew Crew' in the 80's should have tought us a lesson?

We accepeted them...... and in return they took our music, our fashion, our drugs and turned themselves into the bastard son's of 'ravers' commonly known in the popular press as 'Chavs'.

I love anthropology; man the tool maker and all that....Just a bit ashamed of the 'Tools' we made, of whom's offspring are now terrorsing our streets.

And they're the ones breeding at an exponential rate...

Seeing The Dark Knight, being stiched up by some friends, a willingness not to let them have my bag containing my laptop (along with entire sample bank!), £100 train ticket, Ipod, Car Keys and wallet and a heavy dose of Dutch Courage helped the defensive strike massively!

haha! An investment of a million pounds or so in your new home does offer some shelter from the unpleasantness one finds in the more, ahem, traditionally working class areas.

Although Guildford needs to watch out, its turning into Woking.
I'm talking about good old Brighton (assuming that's where you're from based on your name). Summer silly season, pissed up idiots everywhere. Mainly visitors from Essex.
Actually I'm from nearer guildford originally. I lived iN Brighton when I started posting here but now I live in Epsom.
I should change my name really.

True.....Sad that for some, bringing children into the world is born from a need to nurture and protect whilst for others just a need to get more money for free.

I do sometimes think the government may have a plan to keep the masses in a state in inebriation so they dont complain and eventualy wipe themsleves out with liver disease.

After all, in the 80's a frightened British Government tried to flood the UK's black market with black hashish cut with tanqulisers (Largatyl, only available from the Ministy of Defence, given to violent prisoners to keep them subdued) to stop us hippies from being bothered about 'stuff' like Stonehenge, Criminal Justice Bill, Thatcher etc....

If people are going ape at a rave, just walk away from the rave without looking up too much or mouthing off. If trouble is always around a certain part of town, or certain pubs, avoid them. Simple, really !
it was really nice til the assholes started a fight, but youre right willyburg is a *certain part of town*, and it was friggin HOT.
On the other hand its the only place in hamburg where you can do semi legal raves anymore. I hope the promoters dont run into trouble with the police because i like the idea of free raves.

I live in Norfolk UK (mostly rural) which now has is own police RAVE response team to stop raves, due to the regular violence at one rave promoters parties (Brainscan). 300 of their ravers even attacked the police station after having their gear confascated.
Not very brainy spoilt it for the responsible ravers now there are hardly any raves to choose from now most are populated by the rough hardcore

Oh its been a long winter I need to see the sunrise dancing in a field to far out electronica thats life for me.

I live in Uckfield in Sussex and the only problem I have with the lighter days is that the chirping of the birds at dawn wakes me a little earlier...sometimes the cows on the farm up the road have a mooing fit but other than that I don't see idiocy until I step off the commuter train at London Bridge every morning.

521 Bendy Bus:

mobile phone: "Yeah, d'ya get me yeah? Yeah? Are you serious? Are you serious yeah? I ain't being funny right, but...you're joking yeah? d'ya get me yeah?"

All the way to Holborn...tedious. It's 8am!!! Who the fuck wants to talk to you on the phone at that time in the morning????

Sadly I can vouch for this.

At least you're not having to fight the home office just to keep your significant other in the country... or is it just as bad in Canada and America? Actually, it supposedly is...

Aldershot is a squaddies town isn't it. Like Ripon in North Yorkshire...horrible little towns full of pissed up military types.
