who DA FUX is deadmau(5?) ?!
why DA FX should he be tellin' who uses what...?!
doesn't make any sense...
(sounds like ...
I'm opening for Metallica and they won't allow me to play a guitar...
it's either a banjo or I'm out...)
...sounds like an excuse of some sorts..
why don't you tell them you're using the 'other' software....
or tell em' to fuck off...
or fuck off yourself...
cheers...

I'm with 3dot on this. Tell them gaylords you're using Traktor or whatever, fire up a demo of it, then setup Live in the background. Then play all of the stuff he's caning about at the minute.
Personally I'd fucking kick off about it, phone Mixmag, DJ, Future Music etc, mention the competition and the restrictions you've been put under.
You could Milli Vanilli it, stick in a pre-done CD and pretend.
This sort of thing really annoys me.
What's your name and where you playing dude.... We can be there on mass to cheer you on!

^ bad move, IMO.
you're a guest, you're invited, surely you're gonna show the respect and play along. certainly you can get a chance to ask the guy yourself.
congrats on the gig, use this stepping stone as much as you can, someday he'll open for you and you can limit him to only playing in Db minor 9/11 time on a rototom.

"Hi, I'm using a Les Paul and therefore you can't."
Makes about as much sense. I've never heard anything like this. Then again, I'm not in the DJ world. Bands and musicians can be petty I suppose, but the vibe in Chicago at least is pretty great. A lot of folks bend over backwards to help one another out. Oh shit, your amp just blew? No probs, use mine.
Is that kind of vibe common or what?

thanks for the support guys...one of the other dj's has sent an email cc'ing the agent and manager for an explanation and to see if they will compromise. i'll know by tomorrow what they say but as of now the restriction stays....so here i am rendering all my ableton edits to aiff format for the cdj's!
and that's not the only restriction, btw.
deadmau's agent will not allow anything more than 126 bpm played before he takes the stage. another totally daft rule.
i'm annoyed but don't want to kick anything off or spoil the night by making too big a fuss...the guys that run the night are very cool local boyz and stressed as it is getting everything sorted...i think they're just being bullied by said agent/manager. their priority is to have a hitch free nite so if necessary i will play along with gritted teeth.

Could be it too. Try to sort it out the mature way first.manimal wrote:How the hell could he possibly
I'd say this has more to do with some dimwitted promoter than it does with the head liner..
Try contacting deadmou5 maybe, or his management???
Then if all fails, pull out a Beakman's Lester mask with epilepsy inducing strobes in the eyes while you do the christ while your pre made CD plays all his best tracks

you could always try contacting deadmau5 directly. these rules may not have anything to do with him, having been thought up by management without his knowledge. that shit happens a lot, i hear. make their 'main man' sound bigger and better by restricting/throttling the warmups etc.
