On bar 3, try sliding from the 3 to the 5 and back to the 3. That was the original intent instead of going to the open D.

Bowie "China Girl"
Queen "Another One Bite's the Dust"
Pink Floyd "Money"
Beatles "Eight Days a Week" for the walking thing.
Paul was genius of simple so anything he does is great

getting the sound right on simple sounding bass lines takes feel. I wholly reccomend taking to the 4 string whilst not thinking.
Fender 78 shortscale is the only piece of gear i regret selling... yeah what a dumb cunt

I don't play bass, but I think "Nice and sleazy" by The Stranglers could be a fun one, it's definately one of my all-time favorite song.

Also features some excellent use(or abuse) of a Moog synth.

This might be fun.
Its quite a loose interpretation, but you will get the feel. Just 3 little riffs basically.

Another One Bites The Dust for sure and Crazy Little Thing Called Love.
Come As You Are or Lithium - Nirvana
Stone Dead Forever, Metropolis or Ace Of Spades - Motorhead
Anything by Bernard Edwards of Chic/Sister Sledge such as 'Good Times', 'Le Freak' etc. Or his bassline in Diana Ross's 'Upside Down'
Actually while not overly complicated (we ain't talking Jaco Pastorius stuff here), these are probably more geared to beginner-intermediate rather then beginner-beginner.
Walking On The Moon by the Police is simple yet good.

Upside Down - fun pocket to play in
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vLEllvuDbSo
Bed's Too Big - nice one, love the reggae (reggae bassline at least.)
the disco stuff is fun, but the tabs are hard to find. I can use my ears and noodle with it but it's nice to get a suggestion on how to play it.
---
Stigmama - nice ones!
Around the World - IMO played with a pic. the tab has the basic notes but I hammer on the F# at the start of the fast doward riff. same with the D-E, I hammer down those. track has nice sections to loop and play over yourself.

George Baker Selection - Little Green Bag LOL!!

tab is for a 5 string, but n matter.

I will survive - Cake - another cool one, tab looks good, arpeggiated chords, it'll take a bit to get the groove down. another nice suggestion

Galactic - Funky Bird - dunno this one, will look at it later

i played guitar for a while then switched to bass because of a bass player shortage and i usually dont like play guitar with another guitar player either.
hell i usually dont like playing bass with a guitar player lol.
i did fall in love with bass and evolved to an upright.
at first i loved the bass because i just felt as if i was playing guitar solo's the whole time hehe
i would just riff around off the pentatonic scale
then when i wanted to make a key change i would go kick the guitar player in the leg to cue him (wake him up)
i also love rockin out with drummer and just thump on the kick.
dude if you know a descent drummer go jam some drum and bass.
nice little trick i do is make a split of my signal have one that is all my effects and the other is clean.. i put a volume pedal in the beginning of my effects chain so i can swell in effects.
keeps the low end but you can tweak out the effects side with distortion and filters.. also drop an octave shifter and pitch it an octave higher add distortion and you got a tight ass guitar player riffing with you to perfection
be careful though.... your guitars will get mad and leave.. i used to have a sick custom American strat and laney head with marshal 4x12 and thats all gone lol... i still have some crappy guitar in my closet some where .. i dont even remember what kind it is lol.
alot of primus songs are pretty easy to learn too.
at least the main riffs are.
to many puppies
my name is mud
shake hands with beef
(shake hands with beef sounds like it was jacked from a song called bertha butt and the butt sisters by the jimmy castor bunch)

The Commodores - Brickhouse
Cheryl Lynn - Got To Be Real
The Staple Singers - I'll Take You There
