I have a Dell Insiron 6400, owned it about 18 months so far no problem.

Seems a resonable build considering it was the cheaper end of the range.

Inspiron 9400 here (18 months old but it still whizzes along with new s\w) ... great machine. Would buy an Inspiron next time round.

6 USBs, VGA\DVI\SVHS out - so great connectivity - I use it for VJing too.

Dell even replaced my out of warranty desktop HD for free back in May, so I'm happy.

Some Vista license agreements allow you to downgrade to XP. So you can have both, but only use one at a time - vista on a laptop will be an OEM version......

Can I downgrade my OEM version of Windows Vista Business to Windows XP Professional?
Yes. OEM downgrade rights for desktop PC operating systems apply to Windows Vista Business and Windows Vista Ultimate as stated in the License Terms. Please note, OEM downgrade versions of Windows Vista Business and Windows Vista Ultimate are limited to Windows XP Professional (including Windows XP Tablet PC Edition and Windows XP x64 Edition).

Vista Home or Home Premium do not qualify. (don't know what options you get with inspirons.)

Of course, if you already own a full copy (not OEM) of XP you can install both or either anyway.

You might not want vista now, but in a year or two's time?
