-In ableton preferences go to the midi window MPD output and hit the dropdown arrow. You need to alter the delay sync otherwise it works like two records that are in time but not together (galloping horses). (useful to use the metronome) also found it handy to have a midi track of about 1 bar recording, hold down a sound coming out of drum rack, set MPD to 1/4 and adjust the delay untill you can see that the notes get laid down exactly on the right spot when recording.
Dude I can't stop the galloping horses. How can I do it ? I'm not sure what to do in the Ableton preferences window. I don't understand how to, "alter the delay sync" ?
PLEEEASE help me.

Old thread I know...but finally got this working after "making due" w/ my MPD.
Following the guide from above with the MPD settings...have MPD MIDI CLK set to "EXTERNAL" (midi info coming from Live)
If you're using "Rec Quantization" make sure it's set to the proper note value in Live:

1/4 = ctrl+8
1/8 = ctrl+7
1/16 =ctrl+6
(quick key commands for noobs)
I find the MPD has finally got itself enough in time that I prefer to leave it off and go back and just do a "select all" if I need to get it perfect...also allows me to quantize individual note strings that might be in triplets.
Here's the screen shot of the preferences I adjusted...yup, only one.
I adjusted it up to -21.0 ms and even -20.8 ms and this one seemed to work the best...your values may different of course lol
Hope this helps somebody out there!

hey chango blanco you didn't happen to ever own an MPD24 by chance?
i'm looking for some firmware for that unit, but Akai has graciously removed the download link from their site while leaving the proud announcement of the firmware as a page to find in their Legacy section.
