One the things I enjoy most is to intentionally set up background noise during my microphone recordings. For me, isolation booths are just a barrier between the mic and interesting sounds. An example would be boiling hot water on the stove and setting my SM57 close by. I then record these unique "silences" (I know, it's getting a little John Cagey in here) and process them through Sampler. I surprisingly get some great, usable results with enough wacky modulation.

On a sound design level, try doing things that are directly opposite to what common knowledge dictates. I know this may sound like an empty platitude, but it helps to break one out of writer's block.

Great idea! I have read that CAN have done the same thing in the 60's. Apparently they had no pro equipment and were very poor so instead of recording in nice studios, they opened all doors of their apartment to let external sounds get in.

I think the movie "Modulations" talks about CAN doing that as well. I thought it was cool, too, and probably drove me subconsciously toward doing it myself

take any jackson 5 or michael jackson song, splice it into microscopic things, tehn take a midifile from a jazz standard off th web and let it be good

Listen to your music under the shower (thats a "clean" production secret).

Build more racks!

Build midi racks!

Listen to the music at low level. If its still good then itll be even better at loud levels, but not the other way around.

Get good karma.

Dont forget to build racks! (Share them, its good for karma)

Get some life experience!

Get into relationships, break them up if theyre no good. Make kids if its what you want.

Pamper your dark sides in a good way. They also need to flourish to find musical expression.

Go paragliding!

whoo my guru side is unvealing. Usually I channel it into my music, but Im on holidays and dont have my gear at hand. Arg it makes me write weird things... (the beers were guilty too).

Mix in mono on ONE speaker until it sounds good wich is really fucking hard and sort out levels/EQ arrangement problems, then go to stereo to sort out the panning. If you have two sets of speakers start on the ones that sound the worst (like NS-10's or Auratones)
