Hi everyone.
I have not heard back from the Administrator yet (hellooooooo) but the interest from everyone seems substantial.
Format,
I bought my Titanium for reliability and compatibility. Not speed, although it is roughly equivalent to my 1ghz PIII in performance. Although I have logged some concerns on this forum about OSX issues, which is after all a new OS, it gives me very little trouble in OS 9.2. More importantly, everything works as advertized with my MOTU 828. To this day I still have problems with my PC and the Maudio sound card I installed. I have had to do numerous clean installs of Windows because PCs have so many formats and standards. Go to www.unicornation.com and read some of the numerous hardware/driver conflicts PC users have there. Or Sonikmatter.com or Cubase.net. Its not that Macs don't have problems also, its that they have a smaller set of possible things that can go wrong. Since I have been using Live in OS 9.2 I have not really had any problems (oops, hope I have not jinxed myself) and my 828 firewire interface works as promised. After struggling with my PC/ Maudio card for so long, the Titanium's reliability more than makes up for any speed deficit. I scoured the message boards and came to the conclusion that the Mac would be less trouble and so far, I have been right.
Having said that, Toshiba makes a good Laptop also  .

I didn't post anything on the forum to avoid creating a panic but it would be useful to know if that freezing problem is really linked exclusively to the new
generation of Mac. I am not sure, the problem could be in the 1.5 version.
I was exchanging with Geraldo about the freezing problem with Live 1.5.1 (he has the same). I have a Ti800 and Live stops and freeze the computer. This can happen after 5, 15, 60, 800, 1600 minutes. I did a lot of tests with OS9 and OSX.
I am in contact with Alex since the beginning of June about his problem.

Another problem I have since the first version of Live and on all the machines I used is dropouts. With loops that don't have 16th notes in there, I get a dropout the second time it plays, on the fourt beat of the first measure. I found that, by reajusting the Transient value to 1/8 (instead of 1/16) corrects
this. So I a Save in the Sample Settings to avoid that problem in a subsequent use. What's weird is, loops that were alright 6 months ago (at 1/16) suddenly began to make dropouts at this same place. So I had to reajust the transients again.

I'd certainly be interested in joining a tiBook list. I have a 400Mhz (don't laugh) original model with tiny 10GB HD and a meagre 384MB RAM, running OS X, Live 1.5.1 and Reason 2. Despite being woefully underpowered, I haven't had any major problems yet. Mind you, haven't been taxing it much...

I would like to know about how to eg prelisten to clips, what MIDI interfaces work, etc.

FWIW the Oxygen 8 keyboard works fine with Live (and Reason) in OS X...

Anyway, my tiBook may be old and slow, but I still love it, and besides, it was FREE. Bwah hah!

Gotta get a new one with DV out for my aspiring VJ career, however.
(check out www.squaresquare.com for example of very cool VJ stuff using two powerbooks and FCP3!)

I created the TiBook usergroup, moderated by Geraldo, as requested. Anyone who is interested can join.

BTW, sending private messages to the Admin user is not a very good idea; we use that user only for occasional forum maintenance, we don't read his messages regularly. Please send mail to [email protected] instead.

Thanks Stefan!
I'm in my Unix class right now. When I get home this afternoon I will check out what needs to be done to get the Tibook Usergroup going from my end.
Thanks everyone,
Geraldo

It's very simple. Just click the Usergroups button up top. Then Click the view Information button. Press Join. That's it. It says my membership is now pending. I guess the moderator has to approve members. This should be great. It will be nice to have a place to go directly with our Ti issues rather than sifting thru the whole forum.

Hi everyone,
I suspect we are missing some important features for the Tibook usergroup. So far we can only email or send a private message to individuals (I could do that without a usergroup). I have been informed that the individual responsible for maintaining the forums is on vacation so hopefully he can shed a little more light on the subject when he gets back. The other alternative would be a Tibook forum which may not be justified.
In the meantime I will continue to add members as they sign up. Maybe if enough people sign up a Tibook forum could look more feasible...But let's wait and see if the Usergroup will in fact meet our needs?

i was getting curious too so i read the info FAQ about the UserGroups. It says that the UserGroups are a place to group users! I shit you not. is that funny or what? well maybe it's not what we thought it would be. if it doesn't work out maybe we could setup a php forum similar to this somewhere else on the web. maybe osxaudio.com would host it? oh well, wait and see i guess.
