I can only tell you my perspective on some of people wanting a rumor like this to be true...

Not enough people no about Live and how great it is...
i guess it will take time and more features but...

being a long time protools user...I had always pictured protools at this point 2002 to be able to do everything live without stopping, for it to be alot more stable for live use, and for it to be a more geared towards creating instead of just editing... well its 2002 and inorder to change dsp effects I need to stop play back...

So...you can see from my perspective the only way I could see having the system I had always dreamed about is a combination of Logic and Live...

and then I see steinberg releasing the Remix software and can't help but think that this could have been put into the hands of millions as an iApp for apple...

In anycase... I will drop it...but if this future scenario doesn't happen than I guess I would settle for this...

Better support for protools (however you can do it...through direct connect or even better TDM support!!!)
or Motu has that plug-in Polar that let's you jam in realtime...now I know it uses ram instead of the hardisc but maybe in OS X it would be possible for Live as a HTDM/rtas plug-in to protools/Logic?

I don't just some ideas...

oh yeh and you could still Liscene the technology to Apple for iDJ or iMix or i Remix you choose
and they could put a front end to it...

so All is good...

Just please don't sign any hard contracts with steinberg that say you can't support anything but VST...now that will upset your users...I have spoken to other companies and they say they can only support VST because of steinberg...that would be bad..

I may not read all ugly messages,but my opinion is they are somehow good.I can understand them.
I mean,this shows you how the market looks like outsides.
I think there will be many people who don´t like it what you do with Steinberg.
It´s somehow like you said this,at first you laugh about it and don´t care about it so much,but later it makes you more and more angry.
I mean,when you do something like Rmix with Steinberg,most people see this with a kind of smile,but later the anger is bigger and bigger.Or will be bigger when you keep this.
I think the anger and hate is very big right now in the music software area,after the apple/emagic story.So those messages a just penuts compared to the real hate.
For many users(pro and no pro),it´s not funny anymore.
I think the most people have enough of this kind of business,the coopertions, take overs and the forces to use this OS,this computer or this sequencer.
It´s enough for many comanies and many users.
The most thing I don´t like the silent forcing of Steinberg,they are somehow like Microsoft.

By the way...the Steinberg hate is very big since years,it´s not my opinion,there are books about it though.I can send this to you if you like.

We don´t need to care about this,we make music....

The windows NT memory/driver architecture was also borrowed from unix. It's a pity that it took so long to be come an industrial strength platform. Started on Windows NT 3. It's now up to Windows NT 5.1 (XP).

Apple acquires the following companies and releases them as MAC only products while lowering the price and also releasing free iApps based on the technology:

Ableton->iDJ
Native Intruments>OS X quicktime synths that are accesseble through the web/or anyporgram through midi
Waves->maxbass for iTunes other free basic effects

Macromedia->iHomepage type app
Adobe->Adobe Elements incorporated in to iPhoto and given away free

3D software company (Maya?)

Apple replaces Microsft Office with free office component type apps that are well integrated and function better than office and also allow Developers to expand on the technology to add features (i.e. creating isync, adress book which let 3rd parties access them and add funtionality), iCal is coming in september, expect iPoint (powerpoint replacement) next and word and excel replacement later as well as more enhanements to Mail and existing programs, more integration between the programs, and more intergration and funtionalility with .mac

When this Happens Apple will be able to compete directly with Microsoft even on the wintel platform if they choose too...

you will have 2 choices... Go with Windows and Pay Hundreds for Microsoft Office but not be able to run Best of Breed aplications from Macromedia and Adobe and Emagic and Waves and Ableton and FinalCut Pro and Maya and Shake etc....

or

Get Mac Os X and get basic apps for free: iTunes, iMovie, iDJ, Chimera Browser, ical, mail, adress book, iPoint, Sherlock, iChat, iPhoto, word, excel like app, ihomepage, imix (logic based free mixing app), etc... Plus the ability to run best of breed Apps with hardware accelaration: Logic, Shake, Final Cut Pro, Photoshop, Dreamweaver,

and plus be able to run best of breed iHub products before they are available on windows and with better integration, iPod, iCam, iPhone, etc...

Microsoft can do things like this because them make there money (for now) mostly from software...(actually Office is there big money maker) Apple can give away office like apps and all those other integrated products because it will still make money from hardware and it's goal is to increase marketshare...

Also because it will own many of the apps this does neccessary mean less competion...it Will HELP Competion and help implement standards faster than the wintel camp can...this you will see this demonstrate with Rendevous technology...they have already demonstrated this with airport and firewire...
